Most people are lazy and they read nothing much than first/opening post which could be already obsolete because last posts can be about a little different subject. I'm not against necroing but we would need to change general habits first and that is a hard thing to achieve.

I do not think it's "smarter" to answer the long-time-ago-answered question again, sometimes even using the same solution as it was used earlier. Why bother at all?
