With the new GOG acount interface and the order history, it's now easy to have purchase details from years ago. So, in my case, my first purchase was Shogo (Buy it!) and it was exactly 6 years ago (yeah, when the website was in beta, in fact it still always feels like in beta ^o^)

I primarly registered on GOG just to buy Shogo because I had fond memories of it when it came out. To this day, no other known FPS has mixed classic shooter with mecha shooters in a fun fashion so I wanted to play it again but I didn't find a working copy on pirate websites and afterall, I just got a new credit card so, better to use it. Funny fact, is that I didn't bought anything for a year afterwards, then my second game was Fallout 2 and then my purchases became more regular as I got hooked by the catalog...
So folks, what was your first purchase and why?

+1, in for Leisure Suit Larry : Love For Sail.

My first purchase was Tales of Monkey Island, no real story behind it, I'm a big fan of the series, got retail version of the remastered first two games and CoMI, so I simply had to have it when it was on sale at GOG.
Thanks for the nice giveaway, catpower1980. I'm in for Tales Of Maj'Eyal.

Technically, my first game here was Realms of Arkania 1+2, but that was a freebie given by GOG. My first purchase here was during an EA promo, where I bought the two Dungeon Keeper games, while some hours later, I also bought Theme Hospital. Funnily enough, I haven't bothered with either of the Dungeon Keeper games as of yet, so why did I buy them? Probably because I haven't played them before and wanted to do so then. Of course, the main reason I did register on GOG, was the Interplay catalog. Specifically, the first two Earthworm Jim games, which I did buy some time later and completed.

P.S.: I did buy and complete Shogo, but I didn't like the game's MO of almost constant Quicksave/Quickload.

Not in, but here's my story.

What brought me to GOG was The Witcher, but my first non-freebie purchace was a mixed bundle of games from a sale: Unreal Tournament 2004, Alpha Centauri, Dungeon Keeper 2, Medal of Honour Allied Assault and System Shock 2. The Witcher waited for a few more months.

Why did I buy these? Well, UT2004 and Medal of Honour I had played (but never finished) before; Alpha Centauri I had never played, but I did play a lot of Civilization I, so I couldn't let it pass; the others I had never played as well, but had heard a lot of good things about.

More than a year later, where do these games stand? Medal of Honour and System Shock 2 I finished; UT2004 I've played quite a lot but still haven't finished the single-player campaign since I prefer Onslaught scenarios; Alpha Centauri and Dungeon Keeper 2 are deep in the backlog; and The Witcher? Stuck in Chapter 2. It's high on the backlog though, so I should go back to it soon.

Thanks for the giveaway. +1

Funnily, my first purchase here was Sensible Soccer 2006 :) I was studying for my final exams at university and I needed something simple just to relax my mind. It fit my purpose for the time being, but you can't really spend more than a few hours for this one.

Thank you very much for the giveaway and I would like to enter for Signal Ops. I wish you a happy birthday!
I'm not in, but happy anniversary. Great giveaway.
I'm in as well for Signal Ops ! This game seemed interesting to me for quite a while, but I only recently got a pc with a RAM that would handle its system requirements...
Anyways, what was my first purchase on GOG? Here goes:

I joined in May 2013 after reading in a site (Kotaku I think, but I'm not sure) that Treasure Adventure Game was given as a freebie upon joining. After that, I downloaded the game and then promptly forgot somewhat about GOG until the end of October 2013, when I received an email regarding a 60% off Ubisoft promo (at that time, I wanted Rayman Forever only from a retail Rayman bundle -that had other Rayman games too- costing 20 euros). I thus bought Rayman Forever along with Beyond Good and Evil and Splinter Cell and those were my first purchases (on Nov 4,2013 according to my shelf). I bought Rayman Forever because it reminded me of an edutainment Rayman derivative I had played in my childhood (and that's why I was interested in the retail bundle in the 1st place), and Beyond Good&Evil and Splinter Cell because their premises looked interesting and had good reviews.
As for what happened with these games after I bought them: I got stuck at Rayman Forever (it was harder than its edutainment derivative and checkpoints didn't help matters), same with Beyond Good&Evil (again checkpoints were a problem for me), and as for Splinter Cell I think I quit that because it seems I'm simply not very good at stealth games (I couldn't be stealthy enough and got discovered by the enemies all the time).

Anyways, thanks a lot for hosting this giveaway catpower1980 and +1! :-)

P.S. To anyone who hasn't got King of Dragon Pass yet, I highly recommend it -it's a very good and immersive game with lots of lore, exploration and choices ! As a matter of fact, it's the first GOG game that I completed...

I'm in for Rex Nebular.

My first purchase on GoG was Fallout 2 for 5.99, had played Fallout before twice in a row and wanted to get the sequel.
My first purchase were The Witcher and The Witcher 2, 80% off during the 2012 winter sale. I saw them for $2 and $4 respectively and said to myself, wow, those games are great and finally i can get them legally. I also managed to finish both, which is not the case of many other purchases.
Not in but happy anniversary and thanks for your generosity.

Not in but thanks for the giveaway.
I'm in. ^_^ I never did these things before, thinking I'm 'too new', even though I've been around since 2010. Oh umm, the game I'm striving for would be "Redshirt". ♥

Though the first game I ever purchased from GOG was "Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic", I would say technically Gobliiins Pack would be the one I first bought and played. I didn't play the other game until a few months after.

Reason I purchased the Gobliiins Pack was because I had a chance to play the first two games eons ago and found them really enjoyable. I liked how you needed to use the different Goblins to work together to complete the level before moving on. So once I got the pack, I immediately installed the third one which I never played and BOOM, had tons of fun.

What brought me to GOG was through a recommendation from a friend (Dasffion) who is also a member here. He mentioned there was a site that sold old games, refitted to work on new machines. Considering I was full-on in the Abandonware scene in the mid 2000's, this was a fantastic chance to get a renewed chance to support the developers I once loved.

Also, thanks for having this giveaway.
Not in! Thank you & +1! :D

Congrats on your anniversary! Please count me in for Harvester :-)

My first purchase on GOG was LBA - I've spent countless hours with this game in my childhood and opportunity to play it on modern system made my dreams come true :-) I can still remember the hype before that release when GOG put LBA concept art on the main page... :-) LBA is the essence of GOG's goodness :-)

Thank you for the contest!
