enigmaxg2: Hirai should not speak more than needed, critics Windows 8 while their VAIO laptops come with it preinstalled... and what's at the bottom, iOS? he critics a closed system while using another even more closed...

Sh*t talk war incoming!
That's a fake Twitter account. It's not really Kaz Hirai. Still pretty funny, though.
Mojang, whose three founders will leave the company, assured fans that "everything is going to be OK".

Even with that kind of money I wouldn't want anything that big. Excess for excess sake just seems silly to me. *shrug*

I would however buy the entire GOG catalog and a kick-ass gaming PC. ;)

I despise such excess and think it's a complete waste of space if he doesn't make such a party there every second day.

With so much money, I'd build a big workshop complex for instrument makers where I would gather all my colleagues, a concert location nearby, buy the best versions of all kinds of instruments for me and a this location, nice appartments on top for me, for those and potential families, would make some charitable foundations for musical education for the underclass, would buy private tutoring for my potential children so they don't have to take in all this bs in public and private schools, would make a record label for folk music, would buy some houses in Berlin and make the rent way lower than usual today so the natives could afford rent again too (currently they are misplaced due to the invasion of rich southern folk for years) etc... I'd have a lot of ideas on spending money without having to spend it on such stupid excess and buying myself into the rich social class and their stupid parties.

I'd pump a lot of money into strengthening Linux gaming too of course.
Invest in OpenGL, OpenSource, a dedicated gaming Linux distro if SteamOS turns out to be too much corporate controlled and spyware filled etc... encourage Linux ports.

And of course I'd buy the rest of the whole non-regionally priced part of the GoG-catalogue.

Would could should ;-) I'd reserve judgement for when you do have that kind of money. And let's of course not forget that Notch has generously donated to charity even before he's had it, so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect he did the same now.

As it stands, this looks like a solid investment. Value of money fluctuates, value of something like this will most likely only increase.

Depends when America will be annexed by China. ;)

That would still drop value of money, not property.

Of course, what would happen with that property is another question entirely.
I'd never trust charity organisations that are not my own.
It's usually more effective to divert and send money to schools etc... directly.

Yep.

This aside, I think keeping such an estate warm, clean and safe is a constant huge waste of money which could be used better in other ways besides the obvious waste of space while others have so little. That's why I'd go with a way smaller house/commune and a concert/party location nearby, this way both can be used more effectively and the great thing about commune projects is, that since there is always somebody around, you need less security measures and you could grow your own food etc... and make yourself really independend.

Well, if Notch prefers the shallow world of high society, it's his choice.

Heck, with 2 billion $ why not buy GOG itself? ;)

Why not get the licenses of those old games still missing on GOG?

Or buy Steam and shut it down? Can you imagine the uproar? *grin*

Liberating games would be a nice idea. I can think of a few. VtM: Bloodlines and Myst 3 & 4 would probably be on the top of the list. ;)
