It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I'm not that surprised, seeing how they're ruining Firefox and neglecting Thunderbird : (
The eye is really, really very bad. This is the right design for a hacker tool. But the open button or the impossible M are okay to good, not outstanding though. Time to go back to the white board.
And that, ladies and gents, is Mozilla nowadays: they need "social help" even to choose a logo. For a fucking logo.
The twins of Mammon quarrelled. Their warring plunged the world into a new darkness, and the beast abhorred the darkness. So it began to move swiftly, and grew more powerful, and went forth and multiplied. And the beasts brought fire and light to the darkness.
Blech.

What's so bad about Firefox? I quite like it.

Wow, all those potential logos are terrible. I couldn't look at them when I first read the post as the URL didn't work at the time, but I just got through (they must be getting /.'d). If someone was to force me to pick one I'd be forced to choose the most legible of the ugly logos. They're so terrible that I have to wonder if it is a leftover April 1st prank.

Firefox is great, but Mozilla is slowly removing cool features and adding crappy ones.
With all due respect... those logos aren't even worth burning in a fire. Warmth would run away from them anyway.

The idea of setting a watchful eye as a logo. Genius.

Huh. I haven't been using it for that long. What would be some cool stuff they took out?

Barefoot_Monkey: Moz://a is alright, and is somewhat better than their current company logo.
It's not great, but compared to the others it's a masterpiece!

BRB, gonna wash my eyes.

Darvond: I'd like to see the portfolio of the company they paid, and then I'd like to look up a list of the customers (public companies and organizations) to see how many of them actually kept works from this place. Anecdotally, a collage got a logo makeover from the group, only to have recently given themselves a nice new, and more importantly, sensible logo.

Maighstir: Johnson Banks (yeah, I know they probably prefer it to be stylized with only lowercase letters, though as far as I know, that's not correct in writing). Mentioned plain and clear in the OP.
Here's a sample of what they've done earlier. Most of it is a fuckload better than their Mozilla ideas.
Nope, most of those are terrible dreck.

The best proposal I've seen is actually from Neogaf. Just take the M from the current Mozilla logo, and behold! Logo!

I think it could work and save Mozilla several thousand dollars.

They're coders, not designers. If you want to design, most people use Webkit based browsers like Chrome. After all, Google are the ones who made the entire Material Design language. Mozilla has made no such thing and most of the products still look like they do when they came out in the 90s.

In my opinion, Mozilla has been out of juice since Firefox3.0. This shows that they have no clue how to identify their brand.
Seems like he made one (The eye) and made other shit ones to give the illusion of choice.

Still the only stable open source browser on windows. Chromium would be one if there was a stable maintainer for windows builds.

Reading your post, I thought it would have been a basic "M" . . . but no, this is actually awesome! The man is a genius, indeed! I hope they'll see it, though I doubt they'd have the guts to take a suggestion on an Internet forum over professional work from a paid artist.
Putting aside the fact that they desperately need lessons in aesthetics, why are they even redesigning their logo? Are they so desperate to get rid of everything linking them to their (old) identity?
