Hondo! Hondo! Hondo!

The History of Future Folk, an indie Sci-Fi story that has it all: aliens bent on world destruction, boy-meets girl/boy-gets-girl, action adventure, and a killer soundtrack, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99.

Sent from planet Hondo to destroy the human race, General Trius, the most decorated soldier in the Hondorian army, has a change of heart when he hears music for the very first time. Taking on the alias “Bill,” he settles down in Brooklyn where he starts a family and a one-man bluegrass act, adopting Earth as his new home. When an assassin from Hondo comes to kill Trius, the two quickly bond over the power of music and form “Future Folk” — a badass bluegrass duo that rocks the house every night and fights to save the fate of both planets. Part sci-fi comedy/part concert film, The History of Future Folk is full of great charm, originality, and fantastic music.

Get ready for some gripping Sci-Fi action in a scale that seems quite epic, actually, if you consider the budget of The History of Future Folk. Get it, watch it, fall in love with it for only $5.99!
Apologies for the necro, but seeing as how we haven't had a movie release in quite a while and that movies on GOG in general do not seem to be doing very well, I thought it might be worthwhile to highlight this film as it is really rather a good film, drm-free or not.

I caught this on Netlfix a while back and then saw it was here, definitely worth it for a 1080p drm-free version of the film for $5.99. This is the type of film I'd love to see more of around here, and if GOG can bring movies of this caliber in then I would hope the drm-free movie service would continue... or at the very least maybe spin off and re-brand as a sister site, because drm-free digital download movies with a strong indie catalog would be an incredible thing to have happen.

I'll post my review here in case anyone is too lazy to check out the page (yeah, I like this movie a lot and think more people should see it):

This film will one day be a cult classic by the.kuribo

I found this movie while randomly browsing Netflix one evening and it was a wholly pleasant surprise. It's a charming, quirky feature film with excellent production values, endearing characters, and a feel-good vibe throughout. This isn't some amateurish hack job, it's a very well-done, cohesive film that executes smoothly on all fronts and is eminently watchable. This is the type of film I'd love to see more of at GOG, and which I think could give the idea of drm-free film distribution a big boost if more movies like this were made available.

For those who might be concerned about limited sample size and whether this film could appeal to a wider audience than just the denizens of GOG, at the time of this review the film has a 94% fresh rating on rottentomatoes.com (31 total reviews), 4.5/5.0 stars at amazon.com (64 reviews), and a 7.5/10 imdb rating (1,662 users).
