What was the most disappointing video game sequel that you've ever played? For me, it's a tie between Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur V. Both had complete lack of single-player content, removed beloved staple characters or replaced most of them with bland, unlikable clones with no real intention or purpose of why they're fighting, and had absolutely terrible storylines to boot as well. Not to mention far too much empathsis on multiplayer as well. =P
Maybe Master of Orion 3.

Probably the franchise I love the most... dragged in the mud.

Haven't played the recent remake. I saw that it wasn't that highly rated and the 3rd installment just left a bad taste in my mouth.

At this point, I would be happy if they stopped trying to resurrect the series

Expectations are just too high and it would take a team with legendary skills to deliver.

Command and Conquer: Tiberan sun. Totally killed any interest I had in the C&C franchise.
Simon the Sorcerer 3.
I think the horribleness is pretty obvious.

Or perhaps even Oblivion :D.
In my older years, I might have mellowed enough to admit it isn't SUCH a bad game, but following off from the expectation built up by Morrowind, it totally and completely dashed them all. Less freedom, less shenanigans, less fun.

Tomb Raider Angel of Daftness.
Brand new, beautiful engine yet Lara lost all her grace. Very clunky to play with a game stopping bug 1/2 way. It was a terrible shame and the only Tomb Raider game I've not completed.
Actraiser 2.

The first game was a rather interesting hybrid of action and city-building simulation gameplay; while the action part was a standard 2d sidescroller, the simulation part was rather unique; it differs from games like SimCity in that the game is a lot simpler, you are (literally) a god who can do things like throw lightning, and there are monster lairs that you need to seal.

Then the sequel came out, and they *removed* the simulation elements. In other words, they removed the one aspect that distinguished the game from all the 2d platformers that were out at the time. As a result, the game no longer has any aspect that makes it unique. Also, the game was too difficult.
high rated
Thief (2014). The idiots who did this managed to make it worse than Thief Deadly Shadows and couldn't achieve a fraction of what the geniuses behind the original Thief in 1998 did. Not everything is bad there, but it's just ridiculous that it was better done 16 years before. For me Thief Gold and Thief 2 are the best games ever (here on GOG, by the way).

World of Warcraft

Okay, okay, I know- it's not technically, exactly a sequel. But it is the follow-up to Warcraft III. I played Warcraft III, I played the Frozen Throne, liked it a lot (with some reservations, but still) and I was so looking forward to Warcraft IV, to seeing how the story will continue... and then instead of a Warcraft IV we got that boring ass MMO thing. Sigh...

Jet set willy.. after the amazing Manic miner to be sold a game that was so bug ridden it could not be completed... total let down
Halo 4.
I looked forward to that game because I heard you could fight the Forerunners. They were the ones who built the Halo rings and I thought their addition was a great idea. I played through it to the part where the super evil bad dude was revealed and I was like "Aw yeah! Can't wait to fight this guy!" I continued the campaign expecting some wild as heck boss fight at the end. Finally, I reach the end, the bad guy is shooting Earth with some Death Star lookin' laser, I'm hyped as heck, aaaaannnd a QTE happens killing him in less than 10 seconds...

So yeah, all that excitement for nothing. It stinks because a lot of what came before was really cool; you could pilot a Pelican for a little while, on the last level you started off flying a space ship down a space trench, The new weapons were fun, and the bad guy was pretty intimidating when he choked Master Chief with his force power- WAIT. Death star lasers? Space trenches?! FORCE POWERS?!?!?! Oh snap! No wonder people don't like the new Halo trilogy! It was part of the Star Wars universe the whole time!
Commandos 3
I guess Dragon Age 2 for me. My own fault, as I'd seen what they were doing to it but convinced myself it would be fine and still very much like the first one. Wrong. It's not the worst game I've ever played, but what a huge let-down from the first.
