Paradoks: Reboots - no, remakes should. And I really wouldn't mind having both.
Not to say I disagree, but as I imagine you're aware of, there was some work being done on a remaster/remake before it was shut down. Not that I know what's going on at WB or Netherrealm internally, but from an outsider's perspective it would appear that they seem satisfied with the direction they've taken the series in that they seemingly don't need to dredge the well to make old fighting game nerds like ourselves happy. I wish it were the opposite. Man, do I ever wish it was the opposite (there's a lot of wishing I do at the well when it comes to fighting games though - I should just start designating separate areas for each developer, as the Capcom end is like a miasma of disappointment and sadness all by itself).

Paradoks: As I said in another thread - I expect Injustice 1 to show up here eventually, even if that may take a few years.
The biggest question I have in regard to that scenario is - will Warner Bros. finally toss LEGO Batman 3 on here before it happens or after? Possibly even the Batman Arkham titles. Epic getting them, non-DRM, still bites. Regardless of who ordered shipping containers full of cash to suddenly turn up in a dock yard owned by WB just for the "privilege" of them appearing on the EGS.

which still makes me somewhat question whether GOG's no-DRM policy, or GOG's smaller userbase/not much money to be made here, is the bigger issue. Hope they show up though!

TheMonkofDestiny: Honestly, though it may be a controversial opinion to have, they don't need a remaster. They already got a reboot in the form of MK9. The only thing we don't have is WB/Netherrealm giving two poops about releasing a version of it without DRM.

Falci: And, as TheMonkofDestiny said, MK9 IS a remake of MK Trilogy (with an art style that aged horribly) and is way better than the originals
I watched what was 'MK9 the movie' where all the cutscenes are put together. The story actually combines the first 3 games in a cohesive understandable story, compared to the original game(s) with maybe two screens of text.

Falci: Man, these are games that need a modern remaster. All 4 of them.

babark: I can't really think of a way a modern remaster of Mortal Kombat 1, 2 or 3 wouldn't be much worse than the originals.
Remasters would indeed be worse than the originals, with a butchered tone that is nothing like the original, and also they would probably be highly censored too.

But the poster you are replying to is also right in that the games are a joke in their current form.

What they need to do is re-release the games as direct ports of their arcade machine versions.
