Okay, but what if I argue that most old games were indie?

stevenstarar: Would be nice to see a little more of this [old games, good/bad ones] and less of that [indie games, they usually look like freeware apps and have about as much replay value] cause I see the request section is fulla stuff I'd burn my money on. Hell, even a nice AGI KQ4 for my existing purchase or something to tide me through.
Please see Table IX.

GOG has released 51 old games (11+ years old) in 2015 (in just over 7 months). At this rate, we can expect about 87 old games this year.

By comparison, the year with most old games released so far (2013) only had 57 old games for the entire year. There is really nothing to complain about; GOG is releasing a lot more old games than ever before (as well as lots of new games).

Aside from what Matruchus pointed above, I'd guess that part of those complaints pertains to the total ratio of old games released. I get the impression that if GOG only released those 51 old games, those people wouldn't be complaining, but put 51 against a total of ~190 games released so far and they end up thinking "why couldn't those 190 be all old games?"

You know the answer. Tell them not to look at the other 137 games if they don't care for them. Then they'll have 100% old games,
Aquaria is actually an old game. It was released in 2007, eight years ago. Eight years is the time difference between Ultima V (1988) and Quake 1 (1996). Or Beyond Castle Wolfenstein (1984) and Wolfenstein 3D (1992). Or Elite (1984) and Ultima Underworld (1992).

Or Quake III (1999) and Crysis (2007).

Or System Shock 2 (1999) and BioShock (2007).

Or StarCraft (1998) and Company of Heroes (2006).

Or Dune 2 (1992) and Age of Empires II: The Conquerors (2000).

You need to update your timeframe. Games that you still see as being new are actually old now.
I don't complain. We had some really good releases lately. My wishlist grew instead of shrinking despite buying like crazy on sales. Besides i consider anything older than 5 years as old.

those two example to be honest still blow my mind in terms of graphical quality
to go from blocky low poly models to near realism

It's absolutely crazy to think about. By comparison, we've stagnated massively in the 2007-2015 period! That's probably one of the reasons that people don't realize how long it's really been.

we are finally in diminishing returns

each generation was a huge leap over the previous one and then the xbox 360 hit
...and we have stagnated since then

My brother and I were talking about how when we were kids Ocarina of Time seemed ancient but Twilight Princess is older now to me than OoT was back then (about 03 or 04).
Sometimes when I play some old game, say Nox or Tomb Raider, I get shocked when I realize there are people who weren't even born yet when those games were released!

Yes I realize this applies also to games released yesterday (if someone was born today), but still, whoa dude! Blows my mind and pants!
