Here is one of the finest games ever released on an Amiga, a game that doesn't just have great reviews but is still being sold for a very high price on Ebay. It's Lionheart by Thalion Software, the same developers behind the incredible RPG Ambermoon. Lionheart is a 1993 platformer and features some of the best graphics and gameplay ever seen on an Amiga; a highly regarded platformer on a retro system, that has now been released as a full PC remake of which you can download below.

You're welcome :)
Java in 2021 is a weird choice but happy for this remake. I still use Java to play the Fabled Lands gamebooks with FLApp anyway :)
Wow, that was one of my "play through every other weekend" games. I bought at release (that cool black box...).

Objectively it was a little too long, and the fighting could get a bit tedious. I terms of graphics it was among the best games ever on the Amiga.

Valdyn, the hero, is a party member in Ambermoon too.
Oh oh don't know much about it, but the words of yours and reviews seems like a good game. Yeah just saw those pics and it need a little bit of touch...remake? guess they will make it wonderful after these many years but the word java got me at edge... Lets hope for the best.

and Thank you for sharing this with us :) Have nice weekend.

Ehmmmm... I hope you are aware (almost) all Android apps are written in Java :P.

They don't require smartphone users to go out of their way and install the Java installer from the Oracle website. Nor does a website that implements Java requires computer users to do so to execute a .jar file. Subject closed for me.
Anyway, the download also comes with an apk file.

And why in the name of the Flying Spaghetti Monster would you do that, when we have OpenJDK/JRE?

And yes, Android comes with its own Java "Runtime" let's say (if you remember that was the subject of a stupid API patent trial filed by Oracle against Google - thankfully they lost). It would be silly to require you to download anything, since Android UIs are also written in Java.

Linux/Windows are better off without any form of builtin Java, though most user friendly Linux distros ship OpenJDK/JRE, since LibreOffice needs it.

Java Applets have not been a thing for years now. The technology died long before Flash did.

P.S.: If you ever need a fully portable (and open source) way of running a jar file in Windows, here it is: https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/OpenJDKJRE

Most Java-powered applications nowadays (like ie. the JetBrains products) come with their own runtime. No need to install Java.

I have never said the opposite Tommy!
The downloadable file is lionheart-remake-pc-1.0.0.jar. I believe that one needs to have Java installed on their pc or it won't work. And I said it's an unusual extension nowadays, and the only reason I install Java today is FLAPP. I'm really not replying anymore about this to anyone.
I haven't played Lionheart on my old Amiga sadly.
1993 is a bit late for my Amiga "career".

Ok, if it's just a JAR without any installer, you'd need Java to run it.

It can be "found" on the net, and works fine in WinUAE.

Yes, I'm aware of WinUAE and "more or less abandonware" sites ;) It's probably where I have seen this game for the first time.

No worries, nobody's trying to start a fight, only trying to help. I'm a former Java developer, so yeah... it's something I'm intimately familiar with (more than I'd like to be!).

The portable OpenJDKJRE I've mentioned above is what I use. You don't have to install it, it will just extract to a folder of your choice. If you add the bin folder to your Windows PATH variable, it will automatically use the java executables from it.

If it doesn't help you, I'm hoping it might help anyone else trying to run the game ;).

You don't have to install Java permanently and it certainly doesn't need to be the Oracle JRE.

I believe the download link, which has been updated is a direct link to the rar/zipped up file. Upon unpacking you'll need to use the run.bat. However yes it does require the latest version of Java. Something I've tried to avoid installing, but hey ho, in this instance it's worth it
