elghinnfaer: Also VERY angry that some of the games features will only work if I run GoG Galaxy and have it run in online mode, otherwise navigation is near impossible and I have noticed that some other features run buggy and do not work right without being online.

Technically this may not be DRM but let's face it, if this was a design feature it is copy protection. And that was something GoG Games claims to not have...
The game is beautiful but I guess I would be a naysayer as I do not like the fact that you must be online with GoG Galaxy to use all the games features, like navigation to a previous planet and the fact they did not put labels on stars in a effort to help you navigate. Not all stars mind you but maybe at least let us choose how far out they could be labeled.
This is interesting -- could you elaborate more on what features seem to be disabled unless connected via GOG Galaxy? I've been considering the GOG version but know I'd want to play it in offline mode. If it was truly gimped that seems worrying.

richlind33: If important features are disabled if you run it without Galaxy then yes, it *is* DRM.
No it's not. It's an optional feature, not an important feature. You have no idea with DRM is. But anyway you originally claim it's technically not DRM, but is copy protection and now back to being DRM because your logic was faulty.

cogadh did a good explanation here that you should read...

Don't be silly. If DRM is the intention then of course it's DRM.

Why are you posting me to something you clearly know I can see and have responded too. You logic is faulty as hell, which is typical DRM nonsense that happens around here. GOG simply isn't for you then.

You have an extremely poor grasp of informal logic. All you're doing is making unsubstantiated assertions. I'm not even sure that you understand what management is.

DRM is a broad category of various methods of controlling digital content. That's it.

I'm done arguing with you... it's pointless. You have defined DRM in your mind and nothing is going to change that regardless of what is or isn't true. As I said GOG isn't for you then.

Oh I know how to read just fine... I'm not sure if you can though, as none of those actually cover what your trying to claim as being DRM in this game. Not mention I can post links to, to a number of sources that contradict those sources. Hence the none standard definition that you seem to fail to understand
Regardless of the DRM discussion I do have to wonder why such a feature even requires Galaxy to begin with. Isn't multiplayer in this game just a callhome to check planet names against a list?

Brilliant! You've just admitted you were talking out of your ass when you claimed I have no idea what DRM is. lol

No I claimed that because your contradicting your own points about why the game has DRM... but I guess you fail to understand that as well.

Doesn't matter why you made the claim, only that you did, and that it's a rather amusing self-indictment. ;p

elghinnfaer: Great game, awesome concept however I was very disapointed to have only gone 81 light years from my starting planet and already I am finding that other players have been there. We were told that the chances of running into other players was a slim one.

Also VERY angry that some of the games features will only work if I run GoG Galaxy and have it run in online mode, otherwise navigation is near impossible and I have noticed that some other features run buggy and do not work right without being online.

That combined with finding other players a mere 81 light years away, that was just a few warps, I thought we were told the chances would be slim to none.

Overall it is a wonderful game, but I would not have bought it if I though a internet connection would be needed.

Bugs I can expect and can wait for the time for them to be fixed but I have yet to hear these issues are just that and not a design feature.
You can play it without internet connection.
Start the game without the GOG Galaxy client and the universe is only for you (You just can't upload your findings).
Start the game with the GOG Galaxy client and you share the universe with everybody else.
