Oh, and rise of Nations/Legends can be pretty awesome too. Unfortunately I really wouldn't know where you could still find rise of legends...it's an older game and a bit underrated.
If you can get hold of a joystick cheaply, x-wing vs tie fighter here on GOG could be fun. I only played it LAN once with my older brother but if you have 8 players it could make for some silly fun furballing ;)
IL-2 1946 could be fun? eight players might make for some good dogfights. It's available here on GOG too, and you can play it as simple or hardcore as you want (just flip some switches in setup options). If I'm not mistaken it also has coop campaigns?
