This doesn't really surprise me, truth be told.
Having said that, it hardly seems like GoG is about to go out of business. Sure, things haven't been very smooth of late (the Thronebreaker thing, Galaxy looking fairly dormant and the ridiculous redesign, among other cases), but I imagine there is still a long way to go before doomsday.

Wondering about what GoG have in store for the future, what sort of measures/reactions to what has been going on in the industry. Not exactly thrilled at the idea of having to fly almost exclusively with AirGaben, even if that's probably a better idea than jumping into the Epic train...

SCPM: linuxvangog, Konrad, maladr0Id, and Lt_Alenko seem to be at least some of the folks laid off, all of their accounts are non-functional. There's a lot of reasons why GOG's had a rough time, but I see that much of it is related to the wider economic situation, which has been hitting leisure industries like gaming pretty hard. I'm actually pretty relieved that I went into working for the government instead of the gaming industry (although the economic downturn is only a part of that).
If Konrad is really gone, the issue's a lot more serious. Something just reeks of very wrong about it.

Pooka how does konrad's layoff make this situation more dire?
This is not surprising , if we had a way to see what sold how much on gog anyone can come to this conclusion , Also not exactly sure how many active users are there on gog, The lack of any kind of stats despite them pushing online gog galaxy paints a grim picture.

I hope gog stops trying to ape steam for getting more cheap new releases and instead , start to build their own base by

- working on the community wishlist those are the games that people want to buy

- improving the site and its forums its just the same since forever

- lf they cant handle modern releases profitably they can go back to being good old games and drop the cut to attract old lost good games
I just hope Team Cherry's announcement of Hollow Knight: Silk Song to GOG is still a good sign of GOG staying relevant in the PC market. They offer a unique service and without them I do not know where else to turn.
So what happens if GOG does go under? Will Galaxy stay around forever afterward? I really like Galaxy and hope it doesn't go away.
You reap what you sow. GOG has been in decline for some time now (removing GOGmixes, banning for non-politaclly correct views, even their own employess like Linko90, forbidding JudasIscariot to participate in RPG Codex discussions, retarded curation not allowing such retro games like Grimoire etc. etc.), maybe this will convince them that turning away from your core audience will hurt them in the end.

Just read how many people stop buying here because of one game not being released: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/grimoire_heralds_of_the_winged_exemplar

Add to this that GOG has problems with patching the games (or adding fixes/patches) where on Steam developers can add them instantly plus the fact that many new games are added later than on Steam.

There are plenty of insights given in their quarterly mandated financial disclosures. In explaining (and sometimes spinning) the results, they talk about regional splits and specific factors which affect profitability in the different divisions in CDP. It seemed as if sales of non-CDP games had been improving significantly last year, but the extreme dip in CDPR games caught them by surprise and worldwide financial trends didn't make these non-CDP games as profitable because of exchange rates.

They might have over staffed with the success of Witcher 3 and the early success of GWENT and it bit them. And the Epic games store sudden launch is adding a monkey wrench.

i wonder if Thronebreaker did more damage then they let on , i mean them having to admit not only it did not sell well but gog not having the reach....must not be enticing to people bringing their games here

Grimoire isn't exactly a huge seller on Steam. In fact, ole Cleve has brought the price down on the game TWICE. It started off at 39.99. Didn't sell well. He eventually dropped the price down to 19.99. Nope, still didn't sell well. It doesn't stop there though. He brought the price down AGAIN, this time to 9.99. Which is more reasonable, but I have doubts it'll sell well regardless. When is the last time you seen a $30 price drop so quickly? That doesn't happen unless sales are absolute garbage. (Which they have been on Steam)

So I don't see how or why Grimiore would be some kind of GOG savior if it can't get on its feet on the biggest gaming platform of them all, Steam.

all the more reason cyberpunk needs to come out asap and thronebreaker needs a 90% off sale

antrad88: Tomorrow's headlines; THQ Nordic acquires CD Projekt RED.
Don't make dark jokes like that.
I must wonder how many gamergaters GoG chased away when they publicly decried GG. I would've left too if DRM-free wasn't the most important thing to me. I wish GoG would avoid putting their foot in their mouth.

How could it? If GOG goes bankrupt and no other investor takes over, who would pay for the running cost? It's time to backup your games, IMO.
