As the title says. I have seem a ton of members - most are not new but they only have one or two rep- looking for friends to add. I am all for new friends and this galaxy thing is new. I get wanting to play around on it. But why not play here and chat here as well. Maybe I am seeing to much in it.

Any ideas?

Because Galaxy is here to attract a different type of user that's used to socializing through client platforms. And/Or they figured out some exploits and want to take advantage of people through Galaxy.

They're not looking for friends, they're looking for a way to add their friends to the friend list. How do you add someone to the friend list? You need to have a post so that the friend can hover the avatar and the option to add friend appears, since they never posted on the forums, voilá, they make threads so that their friends can see the post and add them.

I blame Gog, the system is dumb and i'm pretty sure that it's because they rushed galaxy so that it would be available for The Witcher 3 launch......

Yeah, it needs major improvement. I don't know how could a dumb idea like this was invented at first.

If i had more friends to play online with, i might consider Galaxy. But since i don't, i am not sure i want to use it. Plus i'm uncertain if i liked the screenshots of how it looks, seemed a little bulky... But i am horrible at UI design.

Indeed, that is an apt assessment of the situation. The beta was most certainly rushed for the Witcher 3 as you can tell by the many features still missing from the client and the ones already there aren't working quite as well either.

There is much truth in this statement, but I honestly can't *blame* GOG. I can understand why they feel that it is very important that Galaxy be up in some form for the Witcher 3 launch. And, of course, they certainly couldn't delay W3 just because Galaxy isn't ready yet.

I've been involved in some very large, very complicated software development roll-outs in my business career. Never, absolutely never, has the project launched in a completed state. More often than not, the product makes it to about 50%, important people get impatient and they force the product to be released as is and "finished" on the fly while live. The projects I've worked on have been internal business projects. But it's a similar circumstance here. You can see how this has all developed. They hit their deadline and they had to put out what they had as a beta and move forward.

You can't really say "that's life." But the similar cliche "that's business" definitely applies.

Oh, i do understand but the same way that i don't "forgive" devs/publishers that release their game half baked so that they can patch it later, the same applies here, i mean, what message are they passing to those new users? Want to add a friend? Spam the forums and your friends can add you.

I don't usually complain and i've been forgiving alot of stuff that happens here but it's getting really annoying to see dumb threads appearing due to the friend list system, error 500 all the time, random people that i don't know or even post here adding me (nothing personal folks but why add someone that you never even interacted with?), etc.

Dunno, time will tell if they will improve galaxy (because right now it really looks barebones) and if it was worth it....

I just saw that in the last day or two, but didn't really know what it was for. Is it just for Galaxy, or for here on the whole site? What's it good for, aside from online multiplayer gaming?

GoG will chance the user interface and account system soon. Then there will be a friends option in the forum too.

They already said on the other thread that it will appear on the site (along other changes), as for what is good for, well, you can chat and i think that you will able to see their library and wishlist (if they allow it).

Because in real life, you think you have a friend. But you can't be certain. Like this, people excplictly declare themselves friends with a written contract, and that gives you peace of mind and a fuzzy feeling inside.
