EverNightX: And if I needed to I can play the Steam release without the Steam client same as the GOG version. But in practice that's never been necessary.
Almost no game i may have interest (which are just a few) are able to be played without a launcher demand... unless maybe trying to circumvent in some way but this is not legit anymore and for some games a headache, for example Final Fantasy 13. You need a mod, the mod is relying on the launcher and the mod provider fails to remove this demand. So, nope... no agreement here. Most people just do "bla bla bla" in order to protect their apparently supreme view but when it comes to "action", the reality seems different.
But indeed... Steam games are always updated and with GoG games... sometimes it just wont happen but in general most of my GoG games are becoming updated at some point... In many cases it will take way longer than on the big platform but the majority, on my games, will get a update.
In general, franchises are protected well... but for those only playing "Indies"... they may be lucky as they generally may work without a launcher (DRM not active).
SargonAelther: Epic is DRM-Free if you use the launch parameter, but then one could argue that everything is DRM-Free with enough tinkering.
Epic is not DRM free, with some exceptions. No clue regarding your "parameter". As soon as it is requiring a official launcher it is not DRM free anymore, and in general a launcher is demanding a online connection (there might be exceptions).
"Tinkering"... no way, in many cases to much troubles and even paying for it... who want that? Maybe masochistic peoples, there are many of them, i forgot.
I do not mind paying 2 times for a great game, in case there is at some point a DRM free version. However, full price is paid only in term a DRM free game is provided at the launch date.
