So you all probably already know that Geralt is in Soul Calibur 6. On top of that game not coming to GOG, it also uses Denuvo
From the ELUA on Steam:
"24. THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE.
a) Denuvo. This Game is protected by Denuvo Anti-Tamper technology (“Anti-Tamper Technology”). By installing this Game, you acknowledge and consent that certain files of the Anti-Tamper Technology may remain even after the Game is uninstalled from your computer. For more information, please visit Denuvo’s website."
Right in the middle of this whole FCKDRM thing too. Call me a shitposter but it's really disappointing to me that a company claiming to hate DRM is willing to give their character away and let him be the face of DRM.
I feel like the least CDPR could do is ask that their character not be associated with DRM. Is it that ridiculous of a request?
Yeah, but that guest appearance was probably done and paid for months or even a year ago.

Not like they can yell at Namco anyway.

This.

I'm fairly sure Soul Caliber will have been in development for at least a year or two and the agreement to allow Geralt as a character may have come earlier than that.

Business is business, I'm assuming this is part of the deal that meant Namco Bandai published The Witcher 2 (that and the fact that guest stars are a common occurrence in Soul Caliber so Geralt's presence will boost awareness of both games).

Don't be fooled by all the gimmicks that gog throws out, they couldn't care #2FCKs about drm free. It's a gimmick, and not true in several ways on here. Once they have the vast majority tied to galaxy, like those on steam, then they will cut classic downloads and effectively be exactly like steam but without the large catalog and with no cheap key sellers.

They also published The Witcher 3 in western Europe

technicality - CDPR is not part of the FCKDRM, gOg is.

CDPR has never had such a strong position against DRM as such, though they do promote it, but happy to sell their games on for example Steam, use Namco Bandai as a publisher, and their own polish store front (does it still exist?) happily sold DRM'd games.

Witcher is a property of CDPR, not gOg.

Addition to this - CDPR and Namco Bandai have been business partners for many years, and as such it is a logical inclusion of Geralt as a guest character in their weapon-based fighter game. it is also good pr for CDPR. so no, it is not "pretty messed up" it is a logical and sound business move from both parties.

First world problems...
You think that's messed up, Witcher 1 required Games for Windows Live, and Witcher 2 needed online activation for up to 5 computers. They don't anymore (on GOG anyway), but things were very different at CDPR back then.

GWENT, on the other hand is still online only.

Maybe,he fancies Denuvo.

You also forget, not everyone who shops here is a DRM Free idiot.
Don´t tell anyone, but Geralt is carrying a virus, that will destroy Denuvo from the inside.

What is Denuvo and why do we hate it?

pkk234: What is Denuvo and why do we hate it?
It's a form of anti-tampering DRM that has been unusually successful, which I presume is why it's so hated. There are also reports of it causing performance issues in games, though not everyone seems to experience such issues.

1. It's highly effective DRM. Initially even renowned hacker groups admitted that it could put an end to software piracy as we know it. Luckily they weren't quite right and almost all meaningful releases using Denuvo have been successfully cracked.
2. It's one of those pesky DRMs that have been accused of doing a variety of shit like writing a shitload of data, thereby killing SSDs, affecting games' performance and classically leaving files behind when uninstalled.

Edit: Ninja'd.

CDP doesn't fully own The Witcher as a trademark or as an IP. There is some kind of shared deal with Sapkowski. Geralt and The Witcher pre-dated CDP and was its own thing for a long time before CDP got involved in it. Nobody would dispute that they have become a part of it, and that they have done much to shape it, but it is not an extension of them. So Geralt being in SCVI is no different than Spiderman or Yoda or the ninja turtles or whatever.

Being a Japanese fighting game, there was pretty much no way in hell it wasn't gonna ship with Denuvo. While I do hate Denuvo, to be honest I more dislike the nickle and dime shitfest that fighting games have turned into, that SCVI has already demonstrated itself as carrying the banner for than the Denuvo Anti Tamper stuck into the game.
