Breja: Often the books I read or a movie I've recently seen put me in a mood to play a similar game. For example right now I'm reading the Iliad, and I find myself regretting a lot that I didn't get Apotheon in the Summer Sale. And after watching Mad Max: Fury Road I replayed Bulletstorm, because I was in a mood for some balls to the wall crazy sci-fi action. No way was I playing Legend of Grimrock or Reus that day. I wonder if others like to line up their games with bookk, movies etc? Or maybe it's the other way around for some, a game makes you want to read or watch something in the same vein?
That happens to me as well, in both directions. A movie or book can put me in the mood to play something specific, and a game can put me in the mood to watch or read something specific.

It sure does, and that's why I've been playing Fuckon Quest (probably...Edit: definitely NSFW) whenever I have a spare hand.

I don't really think so, but the reverse has happened. The fun I had with Dune 2 put me in the mood to read Frank Herbert's book.
Sometimes games enable me to do things from films I wouldn't normally be allowed to do or be horribly killed, shot to death, burnt alive, blown up, eaten or stabbed trying.

This reminds me of how James Bond inspired Metal Gear Solid which then inspired James Bond, but that's another thread.

I often find myself in ‘theme moods’, so reading Bernard Cornwall’s Saxon Stories also means playing Mount & Blade: Viking Conquest. Or playing Wing Commander can lead to Battlestar Galactica on telly. Genre consistency helps me sink into these worlds faster; I don’t know if this is common or that’s just the way my brain is wired.
Oh yeah. I recently finished game GOT and am now back to playing Skyrim.

Before that it was military science fiction and any cyberpunk games.

No joke, that book changed my life when I read it at 14.

i think dirt 2 is the best i havent played that new one yet
showdown is anything but rally

and in 3 i avoid gymkhana i want to do offroading and rally not fucking "tricks" when dirt 3 bothers to let you actually rally or off road its quite good
For sports yes.

Every year during the NHL playoffs I break out my EA games (I even break out my Sega NHL 98 ROM) and every four years during the World Cup I go apeshit with my FIFA games. It will be nice getting the new computer that I'll be able to start playing a few of these that actually have players in them that played this century!

AnimalMother117: I haven't heard of Expeditions, what's it like?
avatar
Breja: It's going to be the sequel to Expeditions Conquistador, which is a great mix of RPG, turn based tactical combat and exploration. I kind of regrett they are not doing anything more with the conquistadors, because that setting is rarely used in games and that was very cool about it, but I can't really complain about vikings.
It's amazing! I can *slightly* complain about vikings - it might drift a bit too close to The Banner Saga. However, Expeditions and The Banner Saga are both such amazing games, I can hardly complain about more of either! In fact, more more more nom nom nom please! ;)

I guess people who follow e-sports have it best. No mere simulations for them, they can play the exact same game they just saw the championships of :D
Oh I forgot to mention, it's not reading or watching, but whenever I take a drive around town running people over I always get the urge to come home and play a little Carmageddon.
Reverse of what you mentioned happened to me when I played Broforce, I watched Rambo series after.
Yep.
Same goes for movies and such and the reverse as well.
I also often think "This would make for an interesting RPG adventture/campaign".. and then I remember I don't actually know anybody that plays anymore and I get sad.
The emotion, not the illness.
Yes. All the time. Recently, I watched some Youtube videos about Japanese WW2 weapons and now I want to play some video games with Japanese WW2 weapons in them. Not the Type 94 Nambu though. That is the worst pistol ever made.
