only morons spend lots of money for cosmetic shit in games not just fortnite but it s eems to be the way gaming is going releasing barbones games with time gated DLC, like BF5 did they even had a time lock on the god damn practice range lol, and then theres lootboxes i dnt mind it so much if yo ucan earn currency i ngame like in overwatch but the worst is probably black ops 4 with cod points which you cant earn in game you have to pay real money for them

I'm really not actually sure what good voting with your wallet does bc it seems like the masses are going to do what they're going to do anyways but you should absolutely not buy things you have strong opinions against. it's ok to buy less crap, especially 1's and 0's that don't really contribute to your survival.

Voting with wallet is relevevant, but there are 2 problems:
1) Previously mentioned that other people also vote
2)The producers often take wrong lessons from these boycotts and push the blame to the creators or the gamers.

I don't think people forgot about that fact, at least if they're being realistic about the situation. Of course it won't change the general course of the video games industry when a small percentage of the customer base refuses to buy into the latest money making schemes. It does, however, create profitable nichés. As long as enough people "vote with their wallets", services such as GOG or small Indie & AA studios will happily continue to supply us with alternatives to the latest AAA industry trends. This applies to distribution, DRM methods ( or lack thereof ), as well as the content of games. Certain genres would be dead by now, if it weren't for their small but loyal fan communities.

- Vote with your wallet.
- The customer is always right.
- People will choose a better service.
- No one is forcing you to buy lootboxes.

These are all catchfrases that are more marketing slongans rather than actual market behaviours.

If a company wants to push something on you, they will untuil you brake and accept it.

Exactly what is happening with Disney and the new Star Wars films and superhero movies. They are terrible by any stretch of the imagination, yet Disney is capable by it's enormous market share and unlimited resources to FORCE them on the audience.

Or worse, the Publisher dumps the loss onto the producer.

Or the worst the studio is simply closed.

And yet, they failed with Solo and probably fail with Rise of Skywalker.

EA also failed with Battlefield V and Anthem. Those games performed quite below their expectations.

It feels more like support with your wallet these days. More and more kickstarters or indie games.

Not at all. Good stuff still exists, and in decent quantity, too. Sure, it doesn't pull down millions of dollars per week like Fortnite or Destiny or whatever, but it's definitely got enough of an audience (i.e. people like myself voting with their wallets) to be sustainable. Personally, I've not bought anything from the AAA side of the industry in almost half a decade, and I've never even come close to running short on good games to play.

From where i stand, ever since STEAM got non optional, no one gives a fuck about

Most of the gamers say "Fuck it i wanna play" ever since 2010, not giving a fuck about
DRM non optional sniffing tools aka STEAM, Origin, UPlay, BN 2.0 and so on
(let alone Epic now)

Why does that work? because every company behind those shitty control tools had their
share of exclusives even if your could buy them on steam they required a (for example)
UPlay account.

Same goes for the MTX and Lootbox crap we have to deal now these days.
Why we have to deal NOW in that wide spread manner with it?
Because no one gives a crap, only thing is they can play, not realizing that things
get worse every year.

stop buying the games on certain platforms if you want things to change....

Nothing ll change, for the most games and clients, not as long as we as gamers
really start not supporting certain things with our money, in large numbers.

Yeah, right, because Disney's sending the Beagle Boys around to peoples' houses to drag them into the theatre, and forcing them to watch. And there's such a lack of choice of other movies to see.
