I was asking myself whether there's a tool (preferable offline) available that can compare a GOG and a Steam account (and maybe even Origin and Desura, when we're at it). I know I do own some games on more than one platform, and sometimes I have to check all these platforms to find a game I'm sure I own somewhere.
Furthermore a tool like this might come in handy if somebody's interested in a game in one of the giveaway threads or at steamgifts.com and would want to know if he already owns a interesting-looking game - all these cheap game bundles make us own more than we know or remember. :)

Does anybody know of a tool like that?
spreadsheets or maybe backloggery or whatever it was called. personally I use a spreadsheet to find where titles are, it also has the passwords cause i keep forgetting them, usernames emails etc are easy but i forget passwords

Bad idea!

Never over do it online. If you need to do it make it with a local copy!

Totally agree. I personally keep one spreadsheet per system, you can get lists of video games by system off wikipedia, which is very helpful. Then add a column to indicate if you have it, and where from. Its a fair bit of work to start with, but it gets easier. Am considering putting all my information in a database as its getting quite big now.

As for the OP, you only own games here (as long as you download them quickly and backup offline), for the others your merely renting them.

One thing I forgotten to mentioned ;)

Good old DOS can be a good help as well:

Open a command prompt (cmd)

Go to your directory where you have all your games installed (i.e. D:/games)

type dir *. > nameyourfile.txt

And you get only the directory names, hence your games ;)

Hope it helps ;)

Why not? It's just a list, no keys etc. And i have access to it everywhere and can check at any time whether i have a game or not. I still am sometimes lazy to check and buy doubles here :p

Because anything put online can a) be used against you, b) can be used to build a profile of you. Take a simple example, say I am an unnamed global corporation wanting to check out what kind of adverts to send to you, oh looky here, I have just found a whole load of data on what games you have brought, disco, have some advertising.

So? With all the technology around us, probably they already do. And i ignore ads anyway.

Too true. Can't even go into shops nowadays without facial recognition software tracking you. Doesn't mean we should all give up and put everything we are on Fecking Idiots Book or something though. Especially G! who are notorious for data scanning. I noted recently that gmail and such like are now linked to Ulube, so they can send me adverts for their partner product which also shows adverts when you get there.

So, you might not care, but there are others around like myself and nightcraw1er (I think I assume safely) that DO care. And unfortunate there are a lot of computer illiterate people around, who do care, but with such comments might be tracked into the wrong direction.

No personal attack ;) Just think about it ;)
Guys no need for flaming. My steam profile is public anyway and i have my gogs on gogwiki. So i really don't care what google does with my list of owned games.

AS I said, no flaming or similar ;)

If YOU decide too do it, it is fine with me, but as I said, just think about, if a newcomer to the internet, reads comments like yours above, let´s be extreme, a kid reads it, what will it think?

OK, I can share everything, no problem at all, because blotunga said so ;)

Following is not directed towards you :D

I don´t understand how people can share private information (like I am going on holiday on facebook) and are then surprised that they got robbed. Why didn´t they leave the door open, would have made it even easier. Aaaaaarrrrrgggg.

Those are two different things. I am rather social-media shy and i don't really like to give out information about my life... and nobody should of course.
