anzicurt: It works, but it's missing one crucial feature: Steam Overlay.
And that's what it's all about.
I just checked Steam's own version of DOSBoxed Doom, and its missing the overlay as well.

OzLefty76: Solved it by creating a synd.bat with a text editor (notepad will do) and including the following text:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Syndicate\DOSBOX\DOSBox.exe" -conf dosboxSyndicate.conf -noconsole -c "exit"

That first quote mark was originally missing.

Saved it in the syndicate directory, ran the synd.bat straight from steam. Worked.

Don't know why Steam refuses to use the .ico icon though.

Can Steam overlay cope with any old DOS based graphics drivers? Suspect it's not a priority for Valve.

Don't forget, DOSBox is an emulator. The games running in DOSBox might be using old drivers, but DOSBox itself is a windows program and can use DirectDraw or OpenGL.

True, but if you can do screenshots or anything using the Steam overlay when running Syndicate through DOXBox, I haven't been able to figure out how.

No, I wasn't saying that I could get it working (not well at least), just that it's got nothing to do with DOS graphics drivers since DOSBox is a windows program.

Pretty sure the overlay doesn't work on DOSBox using DirectDraw because for some reason that I don't fully understand, the overlay requires Direct3D. As for openGL, I did manage to get the overlay working but it was a bit glitchy. Again, this has nothing to do with DOS. :P

EDIT: Just tested it again as I couldn't remember what was wrong with it. It turns out that the only problems I could see were:

1. When you close the overlay, bits of it remain on parts of the screen that aren't being drawn to (the borders to the left and right on a widescreen monitor for example).
2. It made DOSBox a little sluggish. This could just be my laptop being underpowered. Steam slows my laptop down anyway, one of the many reasons I'm not a fan.

eyeball226: Ok, what you do is add your games shortcut to steam, then right click on it in your library and click properties. Then right click on your desktop shortcut for the game and copy the "target" and "start in" sections into the respective sections in the steam shortcut.
That worked. Now I can organize my games with ease. Thanks alot, Sir!
Does anyone know how to add certain games?
LIke ultima 4-5-6 only lets me add 4, same with ultima underworld

Surely they.all have separate shortcuts? As long as you're adding the correct command line switches it should work fine.

Someone wants to add a game from GOG to Steam?!? This is just a joke, right? On second thoughts, I don't want to know.

Some folk like the ease of the steam launch thing instead of having shortcuts on the desktop or hunting throught the HDD i guess.

If the thread had been the other way round... you know - add Steam games to GOG - now you are talking! ;)

They don't show up in the list of games I'm able to add, and if I add the shortcut on the desktop, it just adds dosbox.
It's like this with every compilation game

This thread already contains the answer... It's weird that you posted here without reading this thread.

Option 3-make folders on desktop that categorize the games yourself, instead of waiting for steam to load (which it still does offline sometimes for some reason) two clicks and boom!
