I've experimented with many frame rates and I have found that 90 seems to be pretty solid. There are many others though, and I think they too are impressive. I can't make my mind up as to which one is best, though. 90 fps offers a crisp experience, but then again, so do the triple digit frame rates.

I like 90 fps, but I'd like your feedback on how good it really is and if the other higher ones are superior. I'm not sure what to believe.

My system specs are 16 gb ram, 1060 3gb, i4470k, for your information.

Anything over 18-20fps is good enough for me :p. It never bothered me on the PlayStation 1 or the early pc years using software mode in 3d games, before I could afford a graphics card, so I'm perfectly happy with a 30fps target if it means I can ramp the graphical quality higher. If I can max out & hit higher frames then I do but it's not a priority.

Some online games I've frequented in the past I did aim for 60fps but I don't bother with competitive multiplayer anymore so it's no longer a priority & I've honestly never noticed much difference above 30fps.

Why would you aim for 90 fps
Pretty much no point to have anything less than 144hz IPS 1080p now a days.
You can get refurb units for $115 pretty often direct from the manufacturer, or new $130-$170 all day.

It's not just gaming performance, it's desktop as well.

depends on your monitor and what you play.

Honestly i don't really think more than 60 fps is needed for most people, some games however would benefit from a higher FPS, i personally wouldn't go past 144 as thats #1 what my monitor supports, #2 any higher would be a complete waste for me.. but i'm happy typically aslong as it lands above 60 for most of my games.
I'm fine with 30fps on my Switch because usually I don't got a choice there, but just going up to 60 makes a drastic difference and I would never go below that on my PC.

Got an upgrade from a 60hz to a 120hz monitor in December, and while it's definitely a nice smooth experience desktop-wise in games I ended up still playing at 60hz because that extra bit of performance is outweighed by a much more significant noise and heat output. I can do without that. *shrug* I primarily got the monitor for it's bigger screen; went from 23" to 27", and my old one had some funky discoloring thing going on.

dependsvery much on the game and the genre. for a twitch based FPS, then sure a high framerate is good, but if i just want to boot up a game of chess or Creeper World 3 or Minimetro, then it really do not matter
I aim for 60 fps when I can, but having played consoles for a long time, I'm can still tolerate lower framerates such as 30 fps. I have a 60 hz monitor, so I doubt I would get much benefit for a going for higher frame rates.
For fast paced games like shooters, the higher the better and it will give you an undisputable advantage. Playing UT 2004 or UT 3 in 240 FPS is pure pleasure.

But for slower paced games, you can do with 60.
Gaming is a very broad field. "The Sweet Spot" is a subjective preference based on personal comfort and specific game types.

Basically it's whatever is best for you.

Yup. I'm playing some games @ 30 FPS and I'm happy as a noodle. It's not like I have a choice either way, with GPU prices being what they are.
Nah. There's no perfect framerate, but as long as the developers lock it to a constant rate, I'm fine with most.

Since we're beyond the point of people having grown up to video chips being locked to refresh rates and all games running at 60 FPS, I guess the dream of locked framerate standard is over.
*giggles* If only some games could achieve at least 45FPS, that would be nice.
Yes, it is titles like Oxygen Not Included and Rimworld in later stages, where 15FPS is a miracle, but nonetheless, having both low frame-rate AND frame-times is extremely annoying.

And personally, I'd prefer uniform frame-times, especially in so called "fast-paced games", although I consider that important in any games. Having choppy and jittering moves are annoying even in turn-based games when you move through the map or menus.

I don't think there is any point going frame-rates higher than those your monitor is capable of supporting. Just waste of resources. Or heating up the room you're currently in. Though I'd say simple resistive heating would be more efficient, and having heat pump with good ratings - even more so.
60 fps is generally fine. For shooters in particular a higher fps count would help the feeling of immersiveness and smoothness of the action, but in RPGs and strategy games, meh. Even in third person RPGs I found that the smoothness of the model animation is usually far more important in getting the right feel to the game than actual frame count (when it comes to over 60 fps gaming). But ultimately it's a subjective thing, so the sweet spot is whatever you consider it to be.

It's so personal. I've got a 144hz g-sync monitor but don't play online FPS games. In my experience, I notice some additional benefit between 60 and 75 fps, but very little difference above that. With g-sync enabled, I get an enjoyable (and smooth) experience at anything above 50fps - below that I can "feel" the slow frame rate too jarringly.

I try to set a game to bottom out at 60fps and maximise graphics quality based on this.

Actually you can use a re-sender for that question.
