Cause there's no business like show-business!

Our DRM-Free approach to digital distribution has been the foundation of GOG.com since day one and we're convinced it is now firmly rooted in the gaming industry landscape. More and more users start to expect and demand the digital content they paid for to be free from any kind of restrictive mechanisms that limit access to their collections and get in the way of enjoyment. We think this is a good time to take the next step in our quest to make digital entertainment better for everyone. Today we set out to spread our DRM-Free ideas across the movie industry! That's right: GOG.com now offers DRM-Free movies.

Our goal is to offer you cinema classics as well as some all-time favorite TV series with no DRM whatsoever, for you to download and keep on your hard drive or stream online whenever you feel like it. We talked to most of the big players in the movie industry and we often got a similar answer: "We love your ideas, but … we do not want to be the first ones. We will gladly follow, but until somebody else does it first, we do not want to take the risk". DRM-Free distribution is not a concept their lawyers would accept without hesitation. We kind of felt that would be the case and that it's gonna take patience and time to do it, to do it, to do it right. That's quite a journey ahead of us, but every gamer knows very well that great adventures start with one small step. So why not start with something that feels very familiar? We offer you a number of gaming and internet culture documentaries - all of them DRM-Free, very reasonably priced, and presenting some fascinating insight into topics close to a gamer's heart. Now, what do we have in store for you?

- There's a whole new Movie Catalog for you to browse!
- All the movies we sell are priced at $5.99 (that's a launch promo price for a few of them), and we aim to have that as the main price point for most of our future releases
- Two of the movies - The Art of Playing and TPB AFK: The Pirate Bay Away From Keyboard are available for FREE, so that you can test our new movie distribution features
- Most of our movies are in Full HD 1080p quality, some in 720p. With those of you with limited bandwidth or download quota in mind, we also supply much lighter 576p versions.
- Apart from downloading your movies you have the option to watch them streaming online, right here on GOG.com
- GOG.com is famous for its bonus goodies - each movie will come with as many of them as we can muster
- You can expect subsequent movie releases each week

That's it. GOG.com Movies is a go, time to get some popcorn!

Interesting, I would like some old black and white films.

Sweet Logos... YES *_* !
You're doing it. You're actually doing IT!
This is what I've been waiting for. This is what the rift between the unavailability of Netflix and the dubious ethics of torrenting have been pointing towards for YEARS. This is the area the DRM-free revolution has impacted THE LEAST. I've probably posted some words of frustration on the subject already, with a more structured thing in mind...

I'll be honest - in 2008 I had little faith in (but all the HOPE for) you going this far with games... I sincerely hope you can surprise me again.

Why is everyone being so down about this? I've wanted this exact thing for YEARS now. And now it is a reality. Plus with the other updates to the site (and it FINALLY actually being USABLE on my iPhone 5S), I am unabashedly thrilled, as well as more than willing and happy to spend more money here.

You know what me too. I rather read the books on my Computer than forcing myself to get kindle.
Kind of like VHX or archive.org. It would be cool if it could find all the "extras" videos from the games could be organized in with the movies, like how Humble does it.I guess this kind of opens to door for other media, like comics & books. I'm all for it,

Elmofongo: Good now get Warner Bros. on board so we can have the Lord of the Rings HD Extended Edition.
That would be nice:)
Looks like a bunch of vanity projects for various subcultures of nerd/geekdom. I'm sure it's an ego boost to both their creators and the subculture in general that they get their movies featured here, but I can't say that I'd be inclined to watch any of them unless someone paid me.

The kind of stuff I want to see on GOG even less than TAGES and StarForce.
This instantly made me happy when I saw this on the front page. You said you are eventually going to try to get TV shows here as well, is there any chance you will be able to get Disney shows like Gravity Falls on here? I have really been enjoying that show and have been annoyed at the lack of any DRM free ways of purchasing it.

Foxhack: Keep diluting your brand, GOG. -_-
Well said. I'll be curious to see how this experiment goes and hope it hints that GOG is looking for ways to connect with televisions (like SteamBox) but it seems to weak GOG's presence.
What the ef?
Anyone up for opening a new retrogame store?.
This is getting too strange for me

***My 2 cents***

I'm not interested in documentaries but as you're Polish, it would be VERY interesting if you could get some contacts with local rightholders and get us some films from Central/Eastern Europe (with subs) like "Valerie and her weeks of wonder", the early films of Kieslowski, etc...
Excellent. You have no idea how long I've wanted someone to pick up the distribution of DRM-free movies.

However, I do second the concerns raised here about the impact on your games business.

Also, MKV > MP4. Of course, I can always put it inside a MKV container, but you'd have an easier time yourself if you wanted to bundle several audio or subtitle tracks (for languages, commentary etc.).

Alright I am about to say what I really feel and think about certain aspects and that it somewhat reflects my personality.

1. I don't like the Tablet/Phone oriented look of the front page. It ruins it for people who uese PC/Laptops.

2. So far I am not liking the current library of movies since they are mostly documentaries of games in a very indie light. I mean Indie game the movie? Minecraft? Bronies. These are the whitest, hipster, and internet-ish movies ever :P (And I am specifically referring to those 3 movies I mentioned)
