Hello,

Before updating Windows 10 with the most recent Windows 10 Creators Update, I had GOG Galaxy installed. Also two games, Legends of Grimrock 2, and Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. The games were installed to a network share from my NAS (FreeNAS), and there were no issues.

Now after being away for over a week, GOG Galaxy updated itself, and also wanted to automatically update one of the games. As it tries to update the games, I'm met with an error message. Installing new games gives me the same error.

"The drive or UNC share you selected does not exist or is not accessible. Please select another."

Files seem to be downloaded just fine, and possibly complete, because the games do run if I start them manually from where they are installed on the network.

Nothing I have tried so far, still using this network share, has made any difference. Steam games still install, run, and update fine using the same network share.

I have tried:
Update permissions for all files in share, to allow read/write by everyone.
Completely remove and reinstall the games from the GOG Galaxy interface.

Games were initially installed on March 12th, leading me to believe I was using the 1.1.x version of GOG Galaxy without issue.

I can't say for sure that this is because of the Windows 10 Creators Update, or the GOG Galaxy 1.2 update, or a combination of the two.

Is this a known fault?
If not, can I post a bug report somewhere?

From the OP of the official discussion thread for Galaxy:
== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs
Thank you.
I filed a bug report.

Thank you again.

I do seem to have found a crude workaround for my problem: Enable linked connections.

Resolution 3 as suggested here:
https://techjourney.net/location-is-not-available-when-copying-moving-with-mapped-network-drive/

Resolution 3

EnableLinkedConnections registry value enables Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or later to share network connections between the filtered access token and the full administrator access token for a member of the Administrators group. After you configure this registry value, LSA checks whether there is another access token that is associated with the current user session if a network resource is mapped to an access token. If LSA determines that there is a linked access token, it adds the network share to the linked location.

1. Run Registry Editor (regedit).
2. Navigation to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

3. Right click on System, then point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4. Type EnableLinkedConnections, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click EnableLinkedConnections, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7. Restart the computer.

After adding this registry entry and restarting, I can install my games successfully. It is possible I had this value set previously, and that it was cleared as part of the Windows 10 Creators Update.

Since Steam did not have any issue even without this registry value set, I do believe it is something which should also be possible to have working for GOG, without such crude "registry hacks".

I was about to suggest that you add that to your Mantis ticket. Then I decided to check, and noted that you have already done so :-)
most curious bug

Hello zxinn,

I am sorry to say we do not currently support installing games to network drives. This is something we plan to fix, but I don't know when.

Yup found the same issue - this is pathetic GOG.
I've got it to work by mapping the drive in an Administrator promt to the same Driveletter.
i've done the vollowing steps

1. oben a comand prompt (cmd) as an administrator
2. type "net use <DriveLetter>: <SharePath> <password> /user:<user> /persistent:yes" and replace the <> your specific data (for me it is "net use Z: \\YouBuntToo\pool myPassword /user:myUser /PERSISTENT:Yes")
3. Install the game
