ItBurn: I think that these reviews were left by haters who never played the game. The game JUST released on GOG, so it'll take time for more real reviews to come in.
I call this sort of kneejerk reaction of those reviewers "impuse hating" from now on :)!

clarry: Does 2.2 sound really that bad? If it's a five-star rating system, the average game should be rated 2.5. Of course gamers like to overhype everything or take a dump over minor and subjective issues so stars mean nothing and are highly subjective.
This makes a whole lot of sense, I fully wrote my previous comment with the perception that "anything below 4.0 equals not-really-great" so to speak, simply because thats the general notion of things, more then often I see people who argue for things as either a masterpiece or garbage.

I miss the times where people were still more acceptive to games that are rated avarage or slightly lower.

Dray2k: I'm super interested in this game, but the rating are low with a score of 2.2 stars by the time I'm writing this. Nobody even bothered to write a review. Can someone who gave this game a lower rating tell why this game is bad or at the very least post a video explaining the flaws about it?
That is just people rating it low because of not liking the graphics. I have to admit when I saw stuff for this game the very first time I was one of these "this looks meh" guys but I still bought the game because my interest in actually playing it myself was bigger than anything else and the game turned out to be a lot of fun with movement that does feel good and also with weapons that feel like they have actually power. The more I played the more I also liked the visual style of the game. One could say it grew on me during all the hours I played it. I recommend getting the game and if it turns out that it's not for you, then make use of GOGs refund policy.
I'm not really the target demographic for the game (don't really like FPS games much), but after watching these videos - i just wanted to say that the screenshots on the store page don't do the game justice at all. Looks better than that. Whoever choose those screenshots deserve a whack on the back of the head. :P

should it have been vector Illustrator-style graphics instead to avoid the "jaggies" at least? (I wonder if you'd get complaints about "this looks too much like a mobile or Flash game!" instead.) obviously some devs don't have the budget for incredible art so they make do with what they can.

whenever I hear complaints about the artstyle I'm always interested in hearing alternatives that would fit a similar (apparent) budget.

I like these old-school shooters but I still don't understand why the games that are coming out lately all have to look worse than Doom from 1993.

It is the gameplay that is important. No need to have sprites consisting of as few pixels as possible to achieve a retro feel.

You're right about the screenshots. They need to be redone. The thing is, the game gets improved all the time, so they'd need to be redone all the time too. I think it might be time to do a new batch now though.

You said it yourself, it's the gameplay that's important :P The real answer though is "money".

It just seems to me that these retro FPSes lately are intentionally looking like this so they can say "retro look". But the thing is, that they actually look worse than most retro games from the 90s

Nah. I'm a dev and I can clearly say that I did the graphics myself because I didn't have enough money to hire a better artist :p It was always my intention to go 2D sprites and pixel art though. That's definitely a retro look and I love these old FPSes. I always liked them more than the early 3D ones.

Well, if it is a one man job, then that's understandable. Most 90s FPS games had whole studios behind them so it would not be a fair comparison.

Yes, I've seen those complaints, and I generally prefer pixelated look over the flash look myself.

I'm also not too fond of the 3D graphics style many indies put out with relatively untextured models and meshes. It just gives them a comic / plastic toy look.
Pixelvomit, now in 3D!

No seriously, this looks like hot garbage.

See, there's really no winning. ;-P I do get the complaints here but sometimes gamers are so whiny. In any case I can just not visit this thread more.

funny how the Steam reviews are so much more positive.

It's fine. There's an optional filter called clown vomit. Only then does it look bad.
I'm so happy to see this game on GOG :D

Can someone who gave this game a lower rating tell why this game is bad or at the very least post a video explaining the flaws about it? Theres no way this game is really that bad. I mean I've already read some Steam reviews and from what I can see its nowhere near as bad as people imply here.

At least there are new games that try to emulate the look and feel of older games, I can't find any reason why thats bad. The gameplay looks as good as Project Warlock which was fun, though more faithful to Wolfenstein 3D esque FPS games.

Besides any of that stuff it also reminds me of SuperDuper Quake (high fives to people who remember this).
I find it pretty ironic that in Steam, where all the graphics-addicted kids flock, this game is accepted with open arms. While here on Gog — where the audience is supposedly older and nostalgic and gives a lot more weight to gameplay versus visuals — we see no shortage of people turning up their noses over it. It's like things are suddenly backwards.

Bear in mind I don't have a horse in this race. I'm not a big fan of FPSs.
