djranis: Not a misconception, its just people grow out of games ,comics and cartoon and once they grow out of it and see you watching, playing and reading them. The dialogue is always the same "what are you still a kid ! ". But to us who are still growing with it, its a totally different story

I agree most cartoon are not for children, man i had nightmares as kid watching most of the them, considering the hell of a adventures most of them go through.

Unfortunately, this cartoon=kids notion, particularly present in france, lead to some horrible decisions in marketing and dubbing. The french dubbing really make these cartoons look like aimed at kids. Especially the funny voices reading aloud whatever is written on the screen ("daAAANNNger").
Does that includes "Tin Tin"? Never watched it in french.

Well, the tintin cartoons are originally in french i think (never watched the english version), but there again, they are dumbed down compared to the comics. Many childish snowy disney-level jokes are added at the expense of plot time, many scenes are toned down, simplified, or... just feel idiotically juvenile (tintin's recurring "excuse me, but" *punch* with his self-satisfied smirk), many jokes (or suspense part, etc) are tediously underlined... It's not a matter of dubbing here, but while the tintin books aren't exactly adult material, the cartoons seem clearly aimed at toddlers in comparison.

I will add in also to go see Princess Mononoke! I know the title makes it sound ehh. Especially if you tend to like mostly action or gory anime, like me ^_^ Hellsing, Fist of the North Star, Berserk, etc.

It's really his best work. The visuals, storytelling, themes, voice acting, and so on. I seen a few of the other ones, they were okay, however Princess Mononoke was awesome.

Haven't heard of either of those. My exposure to Studio Ghibli is more limited than i'd like, but what i watched i loved... Probably more so because i was poor pre 2007 and couldn't afford movies... And i just never bothered to look up what else they made.

Was something like this actually planned or is it just a trailer to appeal to the American audience?

I would recommend watching Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and My neighbor Totoro.
I would stay away from the English dubs though, I think they are done poorly and you would lose a lot by not watching them in Japanese with subtitles.
