I always thought of Zoom as a precarious version of GOG, but really GOG is a bloated version of Zoom

I swear that the only people who even know what Zoom is are like a dozen people on this forum who mention it. Everyone else thinks it's that conference call program.

The Thief trilogy is bloat? System Shock series? Fallout? Blade Runner? GRIMWAH!?!?!?

Sorry, lad. As much as I like to dog on gog for their innumerable screw-ups over the years, Zoom's got nothing on them. They have a looooooong way to go to even be considered to be on equal footing with gog.

Plus zoom has a stupid website and overpriced games.
Gamersgate also changed their website to a retarded smartphone design not so long ago.

lol

I mean, I don't agree. Zoom is an option, not a rival. The size difference between the two is huge. Like comparing a Championship team to league 2. The fact one has a team for social media and the other has a single person pulling time is a pretty basic example of this. Though, the comparisons speak volumes on the progress over the last chunk of time and probably the missteps of GOG

Crosmando: I don't think so...

I personally "heard" about Zoom-Platform from here. From many people and many topics. Didn't try tho'...

People have the need to jump a ship here, because this platform is so far gone, biased and violating privacy/data laws, advertising laws, based on insufficient infrastructure, no support (my was answered with a lawyer after months and ignores me since again :D) etc.., etc.., it doesn't even operate on legal bases anymore. And not by a bit or oversight...

While they are under company bigger than Ubisoft, getting funded by millions in taxmoney (GOG directly as well), but they still make excuses and try to look like some poor pro-bono indie company working on good will while censoring people and removing negative reviews.

Also they got very political, ignorant and shady. And they even refuse to aknowledge anything of western culture but throwing celebration for chinese (Lunar) New Year...

There are also topics-lists about GOG alternatives that are DRM-free (and GOG employee lied in a thread that they are the only DRM-free store while they are not even really DRM-free).

I actually think that Zoom-Platform is quite a buzz here between people even as interest for something else goes.

Because people want something... GOG is not "it" anymore for many people. Or should I say.. many gamers? :D

I have not purchased any video games from www.zoom-platform.com/ yet, but I have been looking at them every single day and I have to say they seem ok, but not as good as gog.com, yet.

I will see if I like them in the next five years maybe.

I don't see "Zoom Platform" as ever going anywhere, in terms of progressing into a decent, well-known store.

And GOG seems to be on its way out.

It seems like the age of DRM-free is mostly coming to an end; it's going extinct.

In the not-too-distant future, DRM-free stores will probably become a thing of the past, like rotary phones or cassette tapes or VHS tapes.

Zoom needs to do couple thing to improve there store.

First.
Changing the name into something not in common with a popular conference call app.

Second.
Updating the store to actually have pictures, and not a random game play videos from YouTube.

Third.
Having a proper support email with a ticking system. Instead, they're just using discord for issues.

Last would be. Stop being so worried about GOG. That last thing they did when Alekhine's Gun was released on GOG was childish.

For those who are interested, I brought hatred and rekkyr on zoom platform recently. It was straight forward, got direct access to a downloader and extras. All pretty good. I see zoom platform as being where good old games was some years back. There is a decision to be made, do you want to go the route of expansion, getting customers from elsewhere, n which case it’s inevitable to see a client and online stuff. The alternative is to stay small and keep different but have a small catalog. It’s just the way it is, gamers only know or want steam, so it’s a case of become steam or be ignored. But for now they have some games not available here.

Seconding your last sentence. Oh the jealousy I have for you folks who enjoyed a pre-Galaxy-era GOG :) The simplicity and DRM-free purity of Zoom-Platform are its best attributes imo.

For those interested in pure DRM-free gaming, I do recommend trying to support them sooner rather than later in hopes the stores momentum can continue on an upwards trajectory as it is now getting more and bigger releases.

Note: I believe I saw in a separate topic (the one dedicated to Zoom-Platform) where it seemed mods for Hatred didn't work on the Z-P release. Maybe that can be fixed though. I haven't tried modding any Z-P games myself.

more drm-free alternatives are always a good thing. On the flip side. Zoom needs to step up their catalogue, if they're to be taken seriously going forward.

zoom has a way better website than gog, less bloated and easier to find things since it's more simple and to the point. gog has many overpriced games themselves. at least zoom fixes their games when customers have issues where many games on gog dont work and they still sell them.
