...A faithful horse might get you where some cars can't.

I'm not saying horses are better than cars for modern mobility, I'm saying that you can't travel through a deep forest with a normal car.

Which means, both have it's usefullness and terrains.

• You can't play your Steam/Epic/AnyDRM only games without Steam/Epic/AnyDRM. (Cars in a big city. You won't use a horse in it.)
• You can't be really safe about backing up your games in DRMd stores, you need offline installers for that. (A car won't go into some kinds of terrains.)

If stores focused on offline installers more, it would be like using a futuristic robotic horse with unlimited fuel.

Good for you, but that doesn't mean GOG offering a majority of their customers what they want is a "mistake."

TL:DR: Allegedly automated, but so poorly advertised/documented as to be missed by most devs.

- the company needs more staff
- the site needs a reformat
- the forum needs a miracle worker /(by this point)
- the update system needs an overhaul
- the gog galaxy... be all you can be, I guess

The itch.io client does not offer or do anything other than download and install the game. So there is zero difference btw the offline installers they offer and there client.

The client on GOG gives you a different experience and is often needed for online MP games that a good mount of GOG games require.

If ppl like clients they can have at it. The great thing about gaming on computers is that everyone is free to do as they please. Comparatively, itch.io has the better experience since their stand along online MP games work with or without their client which is a huge plus for those looking for that.

Right now a lot more devs are putting up their games with DRM FREE binraries. 3DRealms is my favorite for this.

I couldn't find the source before responding, but I believe that the Devs update the installer, and GOG makes the patch from that..or the difference between old installer and new..something like that.

Indeed my friend. Just imagine if suddently, all of this exclusivity nonsense just stoped with gaming and more companies actually invested money in relessing their games in all platforms.

All Steam and Epic exclusive games on GOG. Yeah I know what this mean. Let us dream, though.

- the *curation system* requires some serious adjustment, this includes the need to provide a proper reply to any new game applicants for the first time
- the bundle approach must be updated properly: if you own the deluxe edition, you own the base game; if you buy deluxe upgrade you own the deluxe edition and vice versa, franchise bundle means you have everything as owned not some invisible items added to your catalog but owned without even the possibility to buy them; if the game has several editions (normal, hero, champion, god, complete) buying the fullest edition should automatically buy all others, buying the lesser should mean buying just that plus the lesser editions as well (e.g. buying champion should add normal and hero editions); if you have bought some games and some time after publisher creates a bundle of just those games you have bought you should have get that bundle automatically for free or just buy remaining games you lack to get it for free (bundle of 5 games, 3 of which you had, should be added to your account if you buy those 2 remaining games)
- forum replies notification should be fixed!
- tech. support tickets should NEVER be closed as solved automatically in 2 weeks if they are not solved, COVID-19 gave GOG no right to do this!

Well... There are some super rare cases where a game on Itch.io needs the launcher for multiplayer, but I don't remember seeing more than 2 games that needed it, and I often check Itch.io. But aside from those, I too don't think there's any differences between downloading directly or through the launcher.

Sorry, but it might take a while to find them again. The last one I saw was a few months ago, and so I can only vaguely remember them.
