tinyE: That should be easy, a blank expression is the only one I ever have. :D
They don't know what to churn you into, for me, it's chicken nuggets. :)
This lady has something to tell you.

Menelkir: Because fuck you, that´s why.

I have never sailed in my life and i can barely swim. Will probably get killed within the next six months.

I just wanted to let you guys know that it´s been nice knowing all of you.

In case you are wondering, it´s a Catalina 28 that i found in Buenos Aires in January and i closed the deal on thursday.
Before I forget, here:

It's not my job to run the yacht; the horn I cannot blow
It's not my job to say how far the yacht's allowed to go.
It's not my job to throttle down, or even clang the bell-
but let the damn thing hit the dock and see who catches hell!

You know, the fact that you started this thread by telling us to go eff ourselves makes me think that the only reason you got a boat was so that you could get to sing this song (NSFW). =P

Matewis: The most amazing story I've read though is the voyage of Ernst Shackleton from Elephant Island to the South Georgia in that tiny little James Caird boat of theirs. That was just insane
And everything they went through before that. Hard to find finer examples of amazing badassery than Shackleton and his crew.

Soon, we will talk about sunk costs.

Where is the pic? I want to see pics!
Now I want to hear Lyle Lovett's "If I had a boat."

Like the OP says "Kiss my @ss, I bought a boat and I'm going out to sea"

Good luck with the boat, even though you don't sound entirely confident of the consequences. Look at it this way, if you do die while out conquering the waves, you can just have your family and friends shoot flaming arrows at your boat... thus giving you a really great Viking funeral. Having said that, I hope your adventures on the high seas go 'swimmingly.' Ha, see what I did there?

And remember this old navy truism... 'no sailor was ever born from calm waters.'
congrats and good luck. I lived on a boat for awhile and it had its moments of joy but the rest was alot of upkeep, washing, fixing, trimming, polishing, hanging on for dear life, tense docking in unknown ports, constant fixing of impellers, water makers and generators, head bumps and thigh bruises from rough waters, hand pumping the overflowing bilge during huge storms, rope burns, avoiding pirates and drug runners who would toss you to the deeps to take your boat, constant boarding of various nationality coast guard under the threat of their guns, long customs searches with assorted bribes , and just to reiterate washing and washing and rinsing and washing. lol

heh

but seriously, it has its moments of pure beauty, like the unearthly glow from tiny creatures in the waves from your midnight crossings, the lonely ping from your sails during watches, having dolphins leap and dance in your bow wave, watching sunsets with no one else on the horizon, the whole laid back sailing life, the thrill of making it out of a storm whole and on course

make sure you have the best life raft you can afford and a grab bag set up by it with water, and emergency gear

tinyE: I have a 32 foot Nordic Tug, I'll race you.
We took it out of the dock a month ago to try it out, and we managed an eye popping 7 knots under power!

Fast and Furious it ain´t. How fast can a tug go anyway? Not that speed is the point.

She is a luxury boat built around a tug hull so while she is very fancy she also a diesel and slow as molasses. It's a boat that does great on Superior because it is very slow and virtually unsinkable; you just can't water-ski behind her. :P

Wow, that ad can't be real can it?
That's awesome congrats! Enjoy her! That's not a bad boat to learn to sail on either - do you have someone who can walk you through the ropes or are you just going to read and or wing (sail?) it?
