It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I have Internet Explorer,
is it outdated already?
Yes, very yes. Microsoft doesn't develop Internet Explorer any more and hasn't for some time. Just for general safety you really should stop using it.

EDIT: Apparently it is discontinued but supported. Not sure exactly what that means, probably bug fixes but no new features.

Probably security patches, but likely no bug fixes unless it affects security.
It might be that Internet Explorer is somewhat outdated, I can't say for sure. However, as a last check before I'm off to bed: you did click the 'GET FOR FREE' button inside the Oxenfree banner on the main page, right? Because if you click elsewhere on the banner it will just take you to the game page, and if you click on the 'GET IT HERE' button on the game page you will simply be directed back to the main page. You must click that little button I drew an arrow towards in the picture help1.jpg above. With that said I wish you luck; I'm off to bed.

The way they do it is weird, but I guess it's to make sure you actually want it without clicking the banner on accident.

Make sure you only click the "Get For Free" button and not other areas of the banner. After clicking on it it will change to "Thanks, yadda, yadda, yadda..." and show up in your account at some point.

For general safety, one should never have started. : P
Used Firefox 46 and it worked for me without issue.

Sam2014: No "Thanks page" after clicking.
There is no "Thanks page", it is not a different page. Only the banner itself changes. It displays the message that it will appear in your account soon. If it is sending you to a different page, then you have failed.

The small green rectangle with the words "Get for free" is what needs the click. Click on the phrase itself. You can't possibly go wrong with that.

Clicking anywhere else in that large rectangle banner won't get you the game for free. Clicking there sends you to the game page so you can learn more about the game so you can be more informed when deciding whether you want the game.

Fair warning: the game is described as a point-and-click game.
If you still can't figure out how to get the game for free, then you'll likely have trouble playing the game, too. So nothing lost really, you'll just be saved lots of frustration by not having it. :-)

Hopefully that will be of some consolation for you if this continues to not work out. Good luck!

EDIT: But don't cross your fingers for good luck! At least not with the same hand your using with the mouse or trackpad. Well, unless this becomes too easy and you want more of a challenge next time…

Is this really so unintuitive? It seems like this comes up multiple times every time GOG does one of these giveaways. I mean, it's a pretty big banner across the top of the front page of the site, and it has what I thought was a fairly obvious button set into it.

I think it can be. You see a banner and instinctively click it and are taken to the games page. You click on Get It Here and get taken back to the main page. It looks like it's a bug.

I can see if people either just don't notice the Get For Free button on the banner looks a little different aren't willing to give it a little go to figure it out. People can be lazy or easily get frustrated trying to figure things out (not knocking OP).

Gog really should just make it where if you click the button on the store page it does what the button on the banner does instead of taking you to the main page to continue the exercise in frustration. Or possibly just relabel it to "Click here for free game."

I totally agree with you on this part. It just boggles my mind how many people seem to simply not notice the banner. Somebody posting on Reddit about the Grim Fandango giveaway that kicked off the sale actually linked to the game's store page in the title of his post. You can imagine how many poor saps sent here from that post were then rather confused and exasperated when they were sent to the front page by clicking the button there.

Heh, I do that too. I want the store page graphic/summary to show up in the feed. I usually mention you get it from the main page, but not sure I've done that the last couple times. Need to remember to do that I guess.

Another option might be for the banner to ask for confirmation. I don't know. The button on one hand seems unnecessary. Just have the whole banner be the button basically. But I think it might just be so people are sure they want it. Don't accidentally click it scrolling down.

I mostly just see it as a lot of people aren't savvy with computers. It's the same with questions asking how to download/install games from the site. One would think at this point it would be fairly common knowledge, or basic understanding by most people. But working with computers and end-users, I realize that's not the case in a good number of cases. My boss has praised Steam in the past because of their client since it really makes life easier for others since it is mostly a click button to install. Click button to play. And I'm sure is a big reason why GOG is pushing Galaxy so hard. You basically open yourself up to a large segment of a population that finds it difficult to download and install software.

I think it might have something to do with advertisement banners working that way, just click anywhere on it. So people might be savvy in this case, but differently than what fits with this button within a button approach.
Yes, I know how to use a computer.
(On most days when I'm not senile)

I do not profess to an expert, but I can
usually manage to click on the proper buttons
to navigate to where I'm going.

The main page link when hovering over it,
turns green, I click on it and it takes me to the
Oxenfree page.

Where you usually click to buy a game(add to cart),
it says "Get free game", or something to that effect.

When clicking on this link, it takes me right back to
the main page.

It must be some scripting error with Internet Explorer
or GOG's coding or my computer or all 3.

I appreciate everyone's help, suggestion, and ideas.
Since no one else seems to be having this problem,
I deduce it has something to do with my computer.

UPDATE:
I went to the neighbours house and he logged onto my GOG
account and was able to easily click on the green button and
the "Thanks" page came right up and the game appeared in
my Gallery almost instantly.

After I went back home, I logged into this forum to reply to the
suggestions. I tried the link just now.
It shows a "Thanks, Oxenfree will appear in your account soon" message.
