the game i want to make it's music play from the hard drive is Croc Legend of the Gobbos

i tried placing the Winmm.dll file and other DLL files that are required for it as well and the music of the game in .OGG file format in a music folder that is in the game folder

but the game is still not playing the music,

now is the question: what am i missing, i have the DLL files in the game folder and i have the music files that is in a music folder which is in the game folder

i am asking this in the GOG forums cause there are multiple games on GOG that used the whole winmm.dll file method thing for playing the game music in-game from the hard drive

(also Croc Legend of the Gobbos does not have any DRM on it by default)

(also the image file included shows what is currently in the game's folder)

Easiest way is to just create an ISO of the CD then mount in a virtual drive.

I assume that with "ISO" you really mean "disc image" as the ISO format just contains the ISO-9660 file system off the disc, ie. the data track, not CD-audio tracks. A BIN/CUE or MDF/MDS pair would work better, or any of a multitude other image-of-the-entire-disc formats.

Yes I did, you Swedes are so precise.

I'm a computer nerd, and nerds usually are precise when discussing their areas of interest.
I'm reminded that for DosBox, some titles have music tracks on the CD, and mounting it virtually to play said music is an option that's part of DosBox. Doesn't mean it works too well, i tried to play MechWarrior 2 and couldn't get the music to play.

But that's a note about DosBox, not necessarily helpful with Croc in particular.

I wonder if the DLL is intended to play uncompressed WAV files...

Quick google search for said game gives two links, that most likely are the same solution.
First link is from the Croc wiki, last section of glitches. Second link is from PC Gaming Wiki, in the Essential Improvements section.
Be aware that the patch is huge, since it seems to contain the higher quality PS1 music. But it should give you a proper idea of how to get your own music working.

I hear you.

Ask me my penis size and I'll tell you to the tenth decimal.

i tried that ps1 music patch thing once but there is 1 major issue with that one:
the wrong music plays in each area you enter
the patch screwed up on the numbering of each music track

So replace the PS music with the one you already have. Assuming the PS music is also ogg files, all you need to do is replace it. If the music is not ogg but another format, you'll most likely need to re-encode your current one too, with all the quality issues that may cause.

just tried the music patch again and i completely forgot about the fact that the music only activates then by using the D3D executable and it just so happens that i have the 1st version of the game that doesn't include Direct3D

quick edit: but i guess this confirms that the game's executable file needs to be patched with something to make it work with the winmm.dll file

You *have* to go to the tenth decimal of an inch to tell the size of your penis.
This problem reminds me from those old times when I used to play visual novels that wanted to have cd in drive even when full install was made and we didn't have any image mounter-software. I used to use a utility called _inmm.dll (Japanese site). It has a patcher that patches game executable and dlls to use it's own _inmm.dll instead of winmm.dll and thus giving ability to use mp3 or ogg -music as audiotracks and possibly leave cd out if game wasn't copy protected.

Using was pretty easy: rip audiotracks to mp3, create _inmm.ini (tracklist) with configurator and save it in game folder, backup possible patchable files, patch exe and possible dlls that normally calls for winmm.dll, start game and pray everything works.

Play Old PC Games does seem to have nice tutorial to setup.

_inmmcnf.ini in that package is text format database for automatic patching specific games (mostly visual novels) but it can be modified to autopatch other games that use winmm.dll.

I haven't used this in long time thanks to image mounters so I can't remember if there were any specific quirks while using.

edit:
_inmm.dll can use ogg or other formats if proper DirectShow filter is available.
If nothing seems to work you can configure it to use Winamp to play tracks but this should be used as last resort.
mp3 with DirectShow is recommended.

i tried using _inmm however Directshow does not work and winamp refuses to work with _inmm (apparently winamp is missing something and cannot properly interact with _inmm)

Before I even posted I knew someone would say that, I just didn't think it would be you.

Kind of disappointed, I thought you were better than this.
