Blade of Darkness. Poor advertising, very high requirements (for the time), very steep learning curve and really high difficulty, all conspired to push the game into obscurity, hurting both its sales and publicity. Even though it was a pioneer for certain graphical techniques that are now everywhere present (like real time lighting effects, real time shadows and other ones that i don't recall their name), no one even knows it. Everyone knows Dark Souls but about its predecessor (and even inspiration source according to others), Blade of Darkness, no one is any wiser. And the game being pulled off from sales doesn't even help the least bit!

And here by Houston i was hoping to watch a documentary or read articles about all the problematic Apollo missions and catastrophic vessels, their "mysterious" absence from NASA files and more valid speculation about the forging of the moon landing... Especially since as i read, lately, americans buy their rockets from Mother Russia and all...

Speaking of "Housten we have a problem", on the spaceship front, I remember when they patched eve online and it resulted in people's boot.ini files being wiped. Then, when people restarted without boot.ini, windows would not load and people would have to re-install windows.

I purchased a game called "Trespasser", it was based on the "Jurassic Park" series of movies out at the time. While a pretty impressive game, it was quite too slow for my system and I couldn't really get the game interaction down to a point where I could get very far.

I found it too much for my hardware at the time and I (thought) I had something high-end, however, the game was interesting, it just wasn't fun trying to fight off velocirapotris by swinging a 2x4 piece of wood.

JDelekto: What are some of the most serious problems on game releases, regardless of platform, that have caused the game to either be pulled from shelves, stop production or go into immediate repair mode?

It's funny because " Houston, we have a problem " was pulled from Steam a while ago.  Apparently, the developer used assets from Half Life 2 without Valve's permission.

Wow. OK, I assure you this thread's title and the game pulled from Steam were purely (an odd) coincidence.

Thank you for the links, they should provide some interesting reading!

nightcraw1er.488: Well, I can't think of any that were actually pulled - or in fact patched. Normally they just shrug their shoulders and move onto the sequels.
I recall WB literally did that more than once, not fixing the game but making DLC that you could buy! I think for Archam City?

Arkham Origins, they declared they wouldn't fix gamebreaking issues but were still releasing DLC.

Yes, they know they it doesn't matter what they do, there will always be a vast market of people that will buy it regardless. That's what the games industry is and to some degree has been.

it never materialized it was supposed to show up in the summer of 2014 but so far nothing
so they are more then happy to sell you two thirds of a game but actually fix things or finish it is beyond their grasp

An older version of the C&C Renegade mod CNC Reborn had a uninstaller bug that would have Win98 systems reformat themselves upon uninstall.

That sounds more like a community service. :)
