DubConqueror: They removed the Walking Dead? I thought the news was, they kept around a small team to finish the final season? What's the use of axing the previous seasons then?
This was never the case. The people working on the second episode of the final season were being kept to complete just that episode.
It was going to remain uncompleted until Robert K./Skybound stepped in weeks later and said they were going to complete it.

Still it's strange they axe the previous seasons. Once the final season is ready after all, the sales of both new and old might boost each other. Or are old and new sold by completely different companies? (sorry if I'm a bit unaware, I'm just a curious outsider).

What's probably going to happen is that TWD is going off sale until someone, probably Skybound since it's their property to begin with, picks up distribution.

Hopefully so...

The problem is with the other licensed games like GoT or Batman. Even if somebody buys the remains of TTG, the question is if these licenses are transferable too. The games could get trapped in copyright limbo very easily.

There are a few TTG things that would go to established publishers; TOMI and Guardians to Disney, Batman and Wolf to WBIE, Minecraft to Microsoft and Borderlands to Gearbox. The rest... good luck.

The content licenses might belong to those, the code and specifically created artworks belong to TTG though - and whoever buys the wreck.
There's a reason why licensed games often end up in copyright hell - different pieces belong to different companies. It would have been easier if WBIE had been the publisher of ie. the Batman games, but TTG published themselves IIRC.

The problem is that whoever gets to own Telltale's remains gets pretty much nothing, except for Telltale Tool (which Telltale themselves was planning to shelve for future games), Puzzle Agent IP, and a bunch of source code which is all tied to third party IPs.

Buying Telltale is so unattractive that it may well be that no serious company ever gets to do that, which means that no one is going to even attempt rereleasing any of those games, with the possible exception of Puzzle Agent, which sure isn't going to be a cashcow in the future.

I can say with 100% certainty that we will never see a day when all of Telltale's catalog is going to be available for purchase again - that wasn't the case even when Telltale was at the peak of its success.

There might be some hope if someone like Nightdive Studios would get to own those assets. They are at least attempting to keep older titles around, not always successfully, as is the case with NOLF. Some other company, then it's probably goodbye for those games.

EDIT: It would seem that they have closed down Telltale's own servers.

Hopefully they did remove all DRM from their games as some people said, and everyone got to download them in time. Otherwise some people lost their games forever, once again.
I downloaded all mine, but fortunately I have copies of all in other stores or physical discs, so even if they would be crippled by DRM, I still get to play them one way or the other.

Or they just get the cracked versions.

Well, as long as all my backlogged Telltale games on Steam remain in my account, which they no undoubtedly will. I'll get around to them eventually, I swear!

I'm missing a few tho, like Batman and TWD S3+.

We need one last sale, I would really like to buy the titles that I miss but it would be a huge expense at full price.

Nope, they didn't but Skybound (the company of Robett Kirkman, which created The Walking Dead) did say they want to finish Clementine's story. They wish to release episode 3 before the end of the year.
I'd bet that they'll buy whatever they need from Telltale to be able to put those games back on sale.

We'll see for the other ones as I suppose releasing the games would require an agreement with the license holders as well as buying the Telltale assets for the games.

Amen to that. I’d love to get the handful I don’t have, but at full price that’s prohibitively expensive. At the very least it would be great to know when they’re going to be delisted.
Dear GOG, please give us fire sale if you are going to remove these games...
Don't worry folks, the Walking Dead Final Season, and presumably the rest of it, will return to digital storefronts soon enough!

Oh... excuse me, I meant storefront, singular, it's coming exclusively to the Epic Games Store.
I might not like or play Telltale Games but this seem to me like an asshole move towards previous owners of the game especially if it remains incomplete for them on other stores.

Another reason to avoid Epic if that's the case.
