amok: Sennheiser is a Germany-based company, and in Germany the maximum length of a patent is 20 years. I'm not sure what exactly would be patented, but if you're correct, then that patent should be expiring around now. Most countries (including the EU, UK, and USA) also enforce a 20-year max patent term (as patent laws have become quite harmonized), so it likely wouldn’t be protected in those regions anymore either.

Do you know exactly what the patent covers?
Idle speculation, but I was thinking maybe things like those incredibly thin piezoelectric speakers; though the thoughts were (mostly) unrelated.

Basically instead of a cone driver, you'd have a wafer thin unit that drives the same sound.

randomuser.833: Above and below doesn't work that well
It's probably the matter of perception. I've always experienced perfectly fine 3d soundstage on my stereo headphones.
1. here's what AI has to say

For a budget-friendly PC gaming headset with surround sound, the Corsair HS65 Surround stands out as a strong contender. Other good options include the Razer BlackShark V2X and the Turtle Beach Recon 70.
Here's a more detailed look:

Corsair HS65 Surround:
This headset is praised for its solid sound quality, comfortable fit, and stylish design, making it ideal for long gaming sessions. It also features 50mm drivers that deliver clear sound with a balanced frequency response.

Razer BlackShark V2X:
This wired headset is known for its exceptional sound quality for the price, thanks to its 50mm drivers, and supports 7.1 surround sound for an immersive experience. It also has a decent mic, Discord certification, and RGB lighting.

Turtle Beach Recon 70:
These offer a more comfortable fit and a more balanced mid-range compared to the lower-priced Recon 50X/Recon 50P, resulting in voices and instruments sounding more present. However, they lack low-bass and have a worse mic.
Other notable budget-friendly options include:

Logitech G435 LIGHTSPEED Wireless:
This wireless option is comfortable, especially for those with smaller heads, and offers a decent wireless gaming experience via a low-latency dongle. It has a warm sound profile out of the box, which makes effects like footsteps easy to hear, but the mic may not be ideal in noisy environments.

Another contender
HyperX Cloud III:
While not specifically marketed as a "surround sound" headset, the HyperX Cloud III is known for its excellent sound quality, comfortable design, and impressive microphone performance.

2. Also another maybe helpful video, explaining the basics of equalizing sound on Windows

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA5r7XhvPKY

3. Making Adjustments:

Listen to Familiar Music:
When making adjustments, listen to music you know well to easily hear the changes in sound.

Small Increments:
Make small adjustments to one frequency range at a time to avoid making major changes that you might not like.

Assess the Impact:
After each adjustment, listen carefully to assess the impact on the audio quality and make further adjustments as needed.

Experiment with Presets:
If the app offers generic presets, experiment with them to get a sense of the different sound profiles.

4. Examples of Adjustments:

Boosting Bass: You can boost low frequencies to make the bass sound more prominent.
Enhancing Vocals: You can adjust the midrange frequencies to make vocals sound clearer.
Adjusting Treble: You can adjust high frequencies to make the sound brighter or warmer.

It is a bit like overclocking
btw, we could also try and determine an absolute low in money spend on the article in question.... :D

I guess mine would be at 70 euros… since the Logitech Pro X is available for that price and it is a headset i am happy with for my gaming shizzle, for watching movies and such it is a bit underwhelming but that might have to do with my software setitngs

Also i noticed most people online will only recommend something beneath the 150 euro line if they absolutely must...

So maybe it is 150 euro then, since... i don't dare to jump outside public opinion

To be fair I think the upper limits most people are willing to spend is that much because they wish to focus the money elsewhere on the gaming set up . Which makes sense one has to have the priorities in what matters most to them in gaming.. which most people seem to stress outside of the pc itself as being the monitor .. which to me kinda just doesn't make any sense.. as while sure a good monitor matters sure.. it seems less crucial to ones enjoyment then the sound quality one gets from whatever system one uses for sound be it speakers or headphones, if not a speakers and headphone combination

That and headphones aswell as speakers can easily outlive the monitors usefulness in gaming for varies reasons ..
Currently Using the Logitech G PRO X LIGHTSPEED bought it for 99,99€ - for that price its a decent deal. Ability to remove the microphone is pretty nice and the overall audio is decent and also good for Shooters/direction calling. Good for Voice chat after some equalizer Adjustments. Would recommend.

Had the Astro A50 Gen4? b4 as i intended to use it both on PC and Xbox (but only used on Xbox like twice so that usecase did not really manifest.
Audio was pretty good especially with the Dolby Stuff but lots of issues with pairing and docking station and loading and also brought down straight after warranty (issues with loading dock and then a broken contact despite only having had inserted/plugged out cables a few times). Docking station replacement would have been more expensive than a new headset. Also pretty bad voice chat quality. Overall not recommended especially considering the price tag.

Well, they currently hold somwhere between 230-240 patents. If the one you think of exists, it should be here somewhere: https://patents.justia.com/assignee/sennheiser-electronic

I'm actually a bit on the edge concerning monitors.... i'm dying to try out oled but, you know..... 500W+ wattage consumption is not really enticing before i have my solar powered house a/c

I did recently purchased an alienware monitor with 2 resolutions.. figured i can always go back to HD when it is not winter and i'm dying to play something triple A
With the arrival of the A50 almost at the end of my evening, i of course did manage to sample a couple of things. Please keep in mind that my reference is of course the previous model i used, the Logitech G Pro X.

The first thing that stood was out the 'sharpness'of the sound while i randomned through my music library. I have to say, some of those Stellaris tunes are rated less now. Maybe i can use a different profile.

Connection btw was as it is supposed to be. I did think i could start with Bluetooth but then you don't have the light speed connection available or Dolby Atmos for that matter.
When you plug in the USB 3.0 cable, the Dolby Atmos app registers your licence right away, which i found actually kind of cool.

Next on the list were of course some games, while the Dolby supported titles on the PC is not really great i do have 2. CP2077 and Jedi FO. With Night city being a more terrible playground, busy city and all than Jedi, but who knows, maybe it is something to get used too or some nitpicking in the settings. Killed some cops and ran away, managed to escape Night City. Jedi was a nicer experience, the intro tune alone manages to tickle the whole sound spectrum, which i found to be quite impressive.... and i could swear i advanced a jedi novice class hear the voice Luke

Setting were a bit confusing to be honest. In CP for example you have the choice between stereo headphones and 3d headphones in jedi i got confused with the multiple surround options finally ending with 'headphones' which gave the best sound feel

Ended with some minutes in 'The Wheel of Time 'only one word.... Superb

Thanks everyone for all of the input. Sorry it took so long for me to respond but I really do appreciate all of the info and am in the process of reviewing some of the recommendations, even the ones made by AI, although trying to think how AI could possibly know anything about "sound" is making my head hurt. (The quotes are just there as a reminder that this is the "fill in the blank" portion of that statement.)

I do you hope you can find something wonderfull, there is really a not much that can stand up against a nice speaker setup.

After purchasing the headphones of course the wonderful AI routines that rule my 'bubble' had a lot of sound advertisements in plan for the coming days. One of them being an offer from 'Teufel'. A distinguished German Sound expert store, or so you might think. If there is one thing you can say about the countries centred in mid-Europe, it is that they usually know their stuff... especially cheaper professional hardware... A bit like the Chinese maybe or maybe the Chinese are atm a bit like them.

Anyways.... Dolby Atmos 5.1 wireless sets for 600 or a 'Teufel' gaming headset for 70's ... like man. I was actually contemplating to change my Creative soundbar for one of those.... but i do enjoy my Creative soundbar subwoofer set.
I wondered if you could not give another of those previous purchases a go with the new knowledge you just obtained? Maybe even get yourself a Dolby Atmos upgrade for 17 euros or something? since this should work with any hardware

Last addition from my corner.

Just watched epsiode 4 of Kengan Asura on Netflix and i'm sold.

My new minimum budget point is 220 euro for a nice gaming streaming headset for the pc
Teufel is not bad but kinda more mainstream. (translation help, not bad in german means actually good). For my personal taste teufel was always to bass heavy. Some people love it, I prefer neutral sound.
And for headphones - no...

Senheiser is better for Headphones and Bayerdynamic is above both.

Problem with "AI" statements, it gets its information from the Web.
So what you get are accumulated information of SEO-optimized "tests" (usually with affiliate links for all "tested" products).
And to a good degree those "tests" are already "AI" generated. So the "AI" is feed with "AI" affiliate crap and then tells you to pay the stuff of the best paying...
