Happy Holidays from the GOG.com team!
The holiday season is here. The world, in all its little shopping frenzies and chaotic reunions, seems to slow down just a little. It slows to taste the crisp winter air, to be childishly entranced by all the lights and colors.

As for us, we're going to celebrate with a little something special.
With a new free game in our catalog: Bio Menace, something of a mix between the smooth and joyous gameplay of Commander Keen, and the alien weirdness of the original Duke Nukem platformers. The spacey 2D shooter by 3D Realms is now part of our selection of free, truly worth playing, classics.

With a Happy Holiday Sale from GOG.com & Bethesda:
Have a holly, jolly discount. It's the best time of the year. We don't know if there will be snow, but have a cup of deal. It's up to 75% off the entire Bethesda catalog on GOG.com - including the three and only classic Fallout games, as well as some of the best shooters in history: the retro Wolfenstein 3D & Return to Castle duo, The Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II & Final DOOM alongside the Quake series (from the singleplayer gory of Quake + Quake II, through the timeless mutliplayer mayhem of Quake III). Finally, there's the chance to explore the history of The Elder Scrolls with classics like Morrowind, Battlespire, and Redguard.

As always, any purchase from the Bethesda catalog on GOG.com comes with a free copy of The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall!

Looking for last-minute gifts? There ya' go.
The sale will last until December 29, 4:59 AM GMT.

Have a happy holiday season!
is this morrowind compatible with all the mod goodness targeted at the steam version?
Thanks for the freebie, and for the offer. I will pass these again, not being Linux-compatible. Maybe in the future.

Merry Christmas!

Maxvorstadt: So, which mods would you recommend? If I remember right, then Morrowind has the same weight problems like the other TES games, which means that looting is not easy in this game. Is there a mod to fix that?
avatar
huan: That is quite large topic, Morrowind forum already contains some recomendations. For the specific problem with weight, I have always used pack animal merchant mod (scroll to the middle of the page), combined with some companion teleport. It doesn't impact balance as much as changing encumberance multiplier. It won't allow you to wear full daedric armor without training your strength heavily, and still allows you to loot everything that isn't nailed down. In my latest game, my poor packrat carries around about 18000 weight units. Of course it can't move with such load, that's why companion teleport is so important - I just summon it when I need to offload more junk.

Chestnut packhorse filled the same role in Oblivion, but the summoning method is weird - there are probably better mods than that.
Alternatively, you can opt to use an exploit instead of a mod.

Create a spell like the following:
Feather 100 points for 1 second on self
X on target (it doesn't actually matter what X is)

Cast the spell on the ground and your encumbrance decreases by 100 points, permanently.

Alternatively, you could use the super potion trick to create powerful Feather potions, which will only be temporary.

This will affect game balance, but has the advantage of not requiring the game to be modded.

Morrowind, at least, runs nicely under WINE.

djdarko: Great deals on some great games - I might have to bite on some Quake action.

Also, strange I just recieved a GOG email that Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project and Balls of Steel are on sale, even though they seem to be full price.
avatar
mecharma: Curious...
Arggghh! What does this mean? Email says they're on sale, but not... yet, anyway. You know something Mr. Maybe and I've been waiting a while for Manhattan Project. The other Duke's have been on sale from time to time, but not Manhattan, at least that I remember. Now it "may be", lol, leaving on the 29th and I want that sale price.

Maybe it's going up in price when it changes hands, maybe it'll be on sale right after it changes hands, maybe the sale email was early instead of late this time <chuckles>, maybe, maybe, maybe... You've got the right tag. ;)

I forgot to ask this: Bio Menace => Are any differences between 3D Realms version (Anthology or free download) and GOG version?
Another free game! Once again thank you, GOG, for making this the BEST games site on the 'net!

The DOSBox settings are slightly different, and the 3D Realms Anthology version has save files used for the first two episodes. The first episode has the last 6 levels on normal difficulty, and the second one has levels 2, 3, and a secret level. There's also an extra mapper file, I think for gamepads or something. The GOG version has the hint sheet in the directory.

^^this! Soundtrack would also be nice.

And why is an awesome new game hidden away in a newspost like this? Can we have a front page spread, please?
Any chance this event is gearing up for the release of the Hexen series on GOG? Please tell me it is so!
Are there any good graphic mods for Quake III? I'm having trouble finding any online.
Oh wow, this is great! I loved Bio Menace 1 as a kid (that episode was shareware back then) and only recently downloaded the abandonware version of the full game for DosBox. But this is so much more convenient! Thanks for this present, GOG! :-)

Agree. Yeah, its soundtrack is really nostalgic. It reminds me of good old days and floppy disk-based games. Bio Menace is one of the my favorite games.
Thanks for another fine free game, gog! ... finally caved for rtcw :)
Has Quake II Quad Damage been removed from GoG?
