It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

You have several options to try, maybe some will work maybe not.

If u alr own the game on steam, simply copy the game files from one machine to ur old one and launch them old style?
I am able to play the HL games without steam at all after deleting my account there, so they do not have steam drm. (using Linux)

Alternatively try same method above if it doesnt work, on a Linux distro.
Ofc this wont apply for u if its b/c u want to use xp only and dont want to change to anything else.
But if its cause u have a very old pc that cant run the new upgrades, Linux will bring it bk to life and make it run better than it did b4 with the right distro and a gd shredit b4 that.

You can also try and look into Goldberg, its a steam simulator that can run most games with steam drm on it, without having the client at all.
Not sure if this will work but worth a try?

Patrickb2007: I was thinking of getting out my old XP desktop to play old games and forgot Steam will not work on XP anymore. I still have another XP machine with Steam on it and will not let me get into the Library as it keeps wanting to update and not load.

So I was thinking of contacting Valve to see if they could sell or someone else can contact, Half-Life on GOG and after all it is a good old game.

Was wanting

(Windows 98 Era)
Half-Life 1
Half-Life 1 Source
Half-Life Blue Shift
Half-Life Opposing Force
Hal-Life Decay (PS2 Only mini story)

(Windows XP Era)
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2 Episode 1
Half-Life 2 Episode 2
Half-Life 2 Lost Coast (Mini Level)

I will buy ALL these if Valve would release them on GOG.
They don't have to release Half-Life Alyx.
I do own all of these in physical big box but the HL2 versions will not run without Steam being installed and steam doesn't work on Windows XP anymore.
I just would love to have the backup files of all these and be able to play these on my old machines again.
Hi Patrickb2007

you don't need an XP system to enjoy most of the titles you mention nor in fact do you need steam for most of them.

I have original retail disks for Half-Life, Opposing Forces and Blueshift. You can pick these up cheaply second hand, ebay etc and can be made to run on newer hardware by using no cd exe's.

The files for Half-Life 2 can be downloaded via the steam client and installed/run on a system that has never had steam installed (i.e. DRM free). I am happily playing this on a w10 system that has never had steam installed and I have half_life 2 DRM free backed up.

Here is a link to a much more knowledgeable forum member than I- he was the inspiration to me to get many of these old Half-life games working without the need for steam or other DRM.

Edit: I see you were the OP in the post I linked to. Oh well. Up to you if you want to try.

Well come to think about it, that's also an alternative to their post. They don't have to play and enjoy FEAR (but it would certainly be appreciated)!

Imagine we get politicians that actually work for the people and not for the 1%... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa what a dream!

''direct competitor''

Like I'm a direct competitor to Jon Jone's UFC title

And CDPR is selling the Witcher and Cyberpunk on theres.
I already as stated before own all these Half-Life titles in physical disc and on steam and just want the GOG version to have the offline exe installer files.

I wouldn't even mind if Valve made an Orange Box 2 for current gen consoles with all Valve titles including HL1 as it is stuck on PS2 only on the console side.

Yes, and? CDPR is a seperate entity operating under Capitalism.

Valve is a private corporation that also operates under the same, but without the brainworms of stakeholders trying to drive them into the ground in the name of a literally impossible principle.
