Heading for the finish line – 80% off.

Haven't gotten behind the wheel of this legendary racer just yet? Be speedy – because Race Driver: GRID will be leaving our catalog on December 31, 2016.

Considered one of the most timeless, refined moderns racers – we're sad to see it go, but you can still grab the game now at 80% off, all the way up until December 31, 10:59 PM UTC.

Vrrrrooom, vrrrrooom.

A brief trip down memory lane, this is how GRID was first introduced to GOG.com:
Rrrrrrrnnnn! EEEEEEERRrrrrnNNNNNN!

Vrrrrooom! If you like fast cars, tight turns, and pulse-pounding races, then today's release is sure to please: Race Driver: GRID--known in the US simply as GRiD--screeches over the finish line!

In GRID, you're a driver with dreams of going big: you start out driving in others' cars for money, but soon enough you'll start your own team, picking the races you want to compete in, buying the cars and equipment that you need to get the advantage over the other drivers, and traveling the world to compete. With 43 cars and 3 different regions to compete in--the US, Europe, and Japan--there's plenty to captivate adrenaline junkies. But that's not all: GRID also features an innovative "flashback" system, whereby you can rewind time a few crucial seconds to fix any sloppy driving or mistakes, avoid crashes, and generally gain the needed edge to win. With open wheel racing, demolition derbies, GT racing, there's plenty of variety in gameplay.

Real road courses such as Le Mans are in the game, as well as street circuits such as such as the Detroit and Washington D.C.. There are also a number of fictional tracks, such as street courses in San Francisco, and Milan, and Mount Haruna.

Is that enough to get your pulse pounding? Check out Race Driver: GRID
Seems like my hunch was correct when I saw that GRID was offered for free at the Humble Store.

Well, hopefully Codemasters can fill in the blank with the release of GRID 2 here.

amrit9037: I knew this was going to happen since license related to cars were going to expire.
Thank you McHack for gifting me GRID before it was cool.

Vingry: What do you mean? Do you mean many racing games will also be removed in the future?
Yes, it may possible. If car names, logos, and body designs are all trademarked then it cannot be used in any form outside those explicitly allowed by trademark law, which almost certainly excluded use in game.
And the licenses are generally very expensive and come with a mile long list of stipulations.

Even though publishers pay them, the companies see games as another advertisement for their cars.
They could completely reject working with publishers unless they believe that game will make their cars look awesome and make people want to buy them.

There is even a thread dedicated to discussion about game removal.
There really needs to be some clause in these contracts that requires games pulled from sale to remain available on an archive somewhere, like a WayBack machine for games or something, so there's some official way to preserve them outside of personal collections.
This is why I love GOG for actually letting us know 1st hand before it's too late. I wonder now if it will be removed from the Steam store as well.

Oh great, just what GOG needs... less racing games.

Sigh.
Sad news when a game leaves the catalogue. But the heads up and promo are appreciated, even if I can't take advantage of it.
Sad to see the game but I guess that was to expected with all the licenced cars in it.....
Regarding licensing, and this is WAY OFF TOPIC but I've been playing NFS recently and this is killing me.

How do these publishers get permission to use actual car brands in a game about illegal street racing? :P This obviously doesn't apply to GRID but games like NFS and Midtown Madness use real cars. Aren't the car makers worried this might look bad for them?

"Yes, we manufacture that very car which just tore through that mall and almost killed 200 people!" :P
Sad to see it leave gog.

tinyE: Great game, I own it and I encourage all of you who don't to pick it up. This is real racing, none of that NFS Arcade bullshit.

I DO HOWEVER HAVE ONE ISSUE HERE.

WTF IS THIS!? "Rrrrrrrnnnn! EEEEEEERRrrrrnNNNNNN!"

I don't know what sound effect they were trying to accomplish here but my best bet is an armadillo farting.

IwubCheeze: Or they shoved a cat in the gas tank ;)
No, that sounds completely different.
Got extra wallet funds from other titles so I consider this as a freebie, been looking this for a while so it's now or never anyways if I want it here.
I still can't get over the strange design decision that you can set the difficulty in every race but the last. Bought the game twice, on Xbox 360 and on Gog, and never finished it.

That said, it's definitely better than its successor.

If that's the right reason behind this game's removal, then it's quite expected that GRID would go first. This game is not that realistic for a racing game. :( (got that from one of the game's reviews)

But still, if GOG managed to get this game on its GOG Connect during these last 2 days, it would be greatly appreciated. The reason why I bought GRID during the Steam Winter Sale this year was due to the discount. I planned on having this game put in my GOG library if one day GOG were to put this game in it. Too sad things don't go that well.

Heck, the game GRID in my Steam library hasn't even been downloaded.

Wooow... Why was my first post rated low? I have proof!

Free advertising, I'd imagine. It isn't like they're advertising the kinds of cars soccer moms would buy to shuttle their kids to and from accordion practice; they're bad ass cars sold to bad ass people who do bad ass things. It's the same idea with the Fast and the Furious movies.
