NuffCatnip: Wow, the results look frightening so far. :(
Trump leading...why... :/
Because the opposition sucks.
avatar
zeogold: Ah, heck...I know I should just be staying out of this thread and minding my own business, but out of all the things I'm able to let glide off my back, hypocrisy is the one thing that always gets my goat...

Allow me to remind all of you who are asking "Whoa! Where did all these pro-Trump states come from?!" that most of these states you're seeing are states that vote Republican anyways. Some places, it's just a given. Same way as you'd expect all the Pacific states to swing Democrat, it's natural that most of the Midwest/South states swing Republican (and go for Trump by default).
Compare the current Democrat vs. Republican map and it's almost exactly the same as the 2012 election (y'know, the one where Obama, the Democratic candidate, won?) save a couple key "swing states", which are so important because of exactly that: They're the places where, unlike the rest of the country, we have no idea how they'll vote. On top of that, a lot of the traditionally Democratic-leaning states, such as California, carry a lot of electoral votes with them.
Don't call it over until it's actually over. We already had the whole "Dewey Defeats Truman" thing to teach us why counting your eggs before they're hatched is a bad idea.

So, to summarize:
The majority of states are voting for Trump because the majority of states vote for whoever the Republican candidate is anyways (welcome to the two-party system, folks!). It's the electoral votes that matter. Wait for everything to be counted before you go do your drinking/crying/throwing trashcans through windows of innocent shopkeepers/etc.

Edit: It's also worth mentioning we've had an actor, a peanut farmer, and a freakin' male cheerleader as president in the past, so at this point, honestly, anything's game. Businessman, woman, man with a boot on his head who promises to pass a law making everybody brush their teeth, whatever.
Right and sober words in right time. Thanks.
I think that if you are an USA citizen, you ARE minding you own business here, it is me who could feel awkward for commenting here.
I would only add: Whoever wins, it would be extremely narrow, so no reason to set the fireworks or burning flags.. Troubling years are ahead one way or another.

And for those who think this election was about the right to say "nigger" and "faggot" - then perhaps this is a wake-up call: Apparently, MOST PEOPLE DON'T CARE. Or more accurate, they care more for such selfish things as "steady job", "no trouble with paying bills" or "good chance that my children will have better life than me" than for some verbal insults.
If the Trump voters from The Rust Belt thinks Democrats don't care for them unless they (the voters) are by chance black or homosexual, perhaps it isn't entirely their (the voters) fault.

It really does.
Have to say, both are horrible options, but at least Clinton has political experience.

Trump looks like he will win, maybe... Americans are so fed up with all politicians and all their lies that they would vote for a non politician and buy his lies. I get it, I really do...I still don't think this is going to be some great change for our country and I highly doubt it is for the better. I actually think it will be more of the same then most people do. Rich will get richer, politicians will continue to do less. Our economy, well just like I thought about W...Here we go down again. yay.

Now it looks as though about half the country will basically have no voice (not that anyone had much to begin with). But really it all started in the nineties any way because Bill Clinton had sex and since then Washington has decided to do their best to make sure the other side can't do anything, even if they agree with it. Makes so much sense, yeah right. Compromise no more, just anger, hate, half-truths, lies, lobbyist and bribes. It is so obvious, yet nearly everyone I hear seems so oblivious to History and how we got here. Both parties suck, both candidates sucked. Not really surprising that the one who wasn't in power the last 8 years will probably win.

At least I didn't vote for him.

In 8 years when guess what, American isn't "great" again. I will just shake my head and vote for the next one...and so on and so on, until finally something snaps and Washington gets off their worthless asses and realize that the needs of the country and its people out weigh their needs to stay in power and to make the other side be wrong. I just hope we don't screw things up so much by then that when the wheels come off they fly, burn, and can never be made whole again.

And that is all I have to say about this till at lest 4 years I suppose. Not that anyone ever listens.

I think we're heading towards a new wave of anti-Americanism of the kind that we saw in the early 2000s, and this time it won't be unentirely unjustified. When Bush Jr. was elected, few people could really have fathomed the chaos that he would bring to the world and the Middle East, something which ultimately has echoes leading to this day in the form of ISIS and the refugee crisis.

But the Americans have voted for Trump knowing what he is, so everything anti-American that happens at this point is on their own shoulders. I tried keep separate my disdain of the US political establshment from a disdain of the people, and I was wrong to do so. Personally I was wrong to trust Americans - like the British, you can't trust them as far as you can throw them.

I'm now just worried about Europe being sandwiched between two Putinist dictatorships now. I think it's really only a matter of time until the two collaborate to install puppet dictatorships here with UKIP/BNP, FN, AfD/NPD, Fidesz/Jobbik, Golden Dawn, PiS among others. Russia is already almost certainly involved with the AfD, UKIP and has already been confirmed to be involved with the FN.

Germany can't be all fun with all those refugees.

Tauto: Germany can't be all fun with all those refugees.
Well, I live right next to a major concentration of first, second and third-generation Turkish residents AND next to a major refugee accommodation centre, and I've not had any problems with them, nor do I know anyone who has. In fact, for the most part, I've found them very courteous (and in many cases, their attempts to speak German are actually quite cute and funny).

In fact, the only thing that "wasn't fun" was when AfD & PEGIDA supporters chucked molotov cocktails at the accommodation a few months ago, causing the fire brigade to pull up, waking us up in the middle of the night with the siren lights.

jamyskis: snip
Good post.

Well, what else is there to say, except this election and the (seems pretty likely at this point) Trump presidency leaves me with a vague sense of unease and somewhat worried about what the consequences of this might turn out to be.

Incidentally, watching the "Hillary is evil" youtube video someone linked lead me to some stupid pineapple-pen song. I think I'll just listen to that for a couple of hours now to make the bad feelings go away...
The thing is, the usa, and the world, are made of tautos, of maximumbunnys, of awaeltj, of infinity9, of kingsbradleys... They are not a fringe minority of drooling evil cunts. They are mankind. They are what it means, biologically, cognitively, to be a human being. There is no evolutionary jump between the 30s and us today. Humans have the same abilities, the same mental horizons. You can stretch the elastic but this is its resting state, and it'll always come back to it.

It does not make it okay, but, as a species, we aren't.

Sure, you would expect them to be polite but what about the strain on the Government funds? I see that lady is not very popular anymore.

mystikmind2000: Not sure i get it? Is it that people who have got nothing, wont be impressed by rich celebrities getting on tv telling them who they should support when none of those rich people have ever helped them in their hard lives? Well probably neither did Trump!.... but i think Trump is just the means to a protest vote, am i rite?
avatar
EBToriginal: Trump means you can say nigger and faggot again.
I would almost say that having all that rich celeb shit is akin to those smoking kills commercials. All it really does is implant an even stronger desire to give "the man" the finger and do something semi-rebellious. I'm guessing the massive amount of campaigning probably did something similar.
I'm just hoping that the rest of the political institutions here in the US are able to keep things from completely going off the rails. Guess it's time to see how well those checks and balances actually hold up.

zeogold: Whoever wins this election, I just want to say, can we stay calm either way? Don't lose friends over petty political opinions. Accept that other people may differ from you and move on.
You want to improve this country? Don't do it by holding some sort of social civil war.

Oh, and one other thing:
DON'T TEAR THIS FREAKIN' FORUM APART OVER IT, EITHER!
People take this shit far too seriously. I can be your friend and not agree with you in every facet of life, ideals, etc. I don't get the absurd amounts of hyperbole that people in general stoop to. If you're honestly so self-centered that you cannot abide the thought of someone out there disagreeing with you and not being a terrible person for doing so, then perhaps you shouldn't mingle with people at all.

( I say this all in generalities, not aiming this at any particular party. If you're being a drama-king/queen right now, knock it off. It's all politics as usual.) :P
