haydenaurion: I'm just at a loss for words right now. My god, my country has become a nation of hate.
There was always hate there.

It's just that it was suppressed due to political correctness and tolerance and diversity propaganda.

But now, no one cares about all that.

So people are voting for Trump because they had enough of the PC crap.

mystikmind2000: I wonder where all the Trump voters came from?

Were not seeing the support, not in the media, not even in game forums!!, just every now and then seen some crazy looking Trump supporters yahooing at his planned events on the news.
Imagine you were a Trump supporter. Now consider, after all the insults, threats and attempts at getting them fired that have been thrown even at people as smart and renowned as Peter Thiel, would you really admit to supporting Trump publicly?

I'm what you'd call an ardent Trump hater, I'd rather see a cucumber sit on the White House than him... but the online pressuring campaign from, let's call them "very vocal minorities", has been quite disgusting throughout the whole election, and that worries me even more than its eventual winner.

And to clarify, I don't think it's "the media", and I don't even think it's coordinated; rather, I believe it's just our basic tribal nature going off the charts in social media, distorting public discourse to almost reality-warping levels.

Brexit isn't coming up for a re-vote in four years so we do have some hope.

In the electoral map on the NYT website, the Keweenaw looks like a big red middle finger.

mystikmind2000: Not sure i get it? Is it that people who have got nothing, wont be impressed by rich celebrities getting on tv telling them who they should support when none of those rich people have ever helped them in their hard lives? Well probably neither did Trump!.... but i think Trump is just the means to a protest vote, am i rite?
Trump means you can say nigger and faggot again.

Whoever wins this election, I just want to say, can we stay calm either way? Don't lose friends over petty political opinions. Accept that other people may differ from you and move on.
You want to improve this country? Don't do it by holding some sort of social civil war.

Oh, and one other thing:
DON'T TEAR THIS FREAKIN' FORUM APART OVER IT, EITHER!

Good suggestion.
It's wishful thinking that people will accept the opinion of others, though.
This forum is immune to such things, at least for me anyway. I get over petty argument the moment someone stops talking. :D

There's this thing called a "silent majority". You'll find that we're particularly blind to it here on the forum.
Fuck.

Honestly, as much as I hate Trump, I just about equally hate the people who bash on others for voting with Trump or assuming (non-jokingly) that all Trump supporters are racist. Same goes for people who think all Hillary supporters are social justice warriors.

We all know we have crappy candidates, but tearing each other apart over who thought who was the lesser of the two evils is blind and stupid.

This goes for you too, mac. Possibly even especially you, the most vocal Trump-hating individual on here. Yeah, ok, we get it, you hate Trump. Most of us don't like him, either.
But one election isn't the end of the world (or the nation, for that matter). I'm sure plenty of people were upset about Bush being president, stupid as he was, and we survived that.

I think it's more anger than hate. Anger and frustration. But the establishment certainly sees plenty of hatred, and seems to want it that way, too.

For me, the reality is that we need each other, and we'd be so much better off if we could bring ourselves to let go of the cultural feuding and look more to what we have in common. It really isn't impossible.

Profound, sir. Care to elaborate?

Nicely said.

My kids are old enough to have been asking all kinds of questions about the elections and the one point I have tried to drive home is that someone with different opinions aren't stupid, evil or crazy. They are just different. Mom and Dad have never voted for the same presidential candidate, this election included, and that's okay because we can have different opinions about these things and still love each other.
