I'm certainly not asking you to further clarify your problems, it's none of my flippin' business. (Really, don't.) It does surprise me too that you cannot work. Not that I intend to badger you about it. You just strike me as a capable fella is all.
Enjoy your trip.
"You may receive Disability Support Pension if you:
are aged between 16 years of age and Age Pension age
meet the residence requirements
meet the income and assets tests for your situation
and
are permanently blind, or
are assessed as having a physical, intellectual or psychiatric impairment
and
are unable to work, or be retrained for work, for 15 hours or more per week at or above the relevant minimum wage within the next 2 years because of your impairment
and
have actively participated in, or completed a Program of Support if required
To assess your eligibility for Disability Support Pension, we usually need a report from your doctor or specialist about your disability, injury or illness. You may also need to have a Job Capacity Assessment. This helps us determine whether you can work, how much work you can do, and how much help you need to find and keep a job."
Being on the DSP for many does not mean one cannot work but rather that one's capacity to work is limited, depending upon the nature of the disability and the impairment rating. The figure of 15 hours per week noted above has changed many times with various governments, varying from 12 to 30 from memory.
You commented on my recent photos. I will share a photo of how I looked one year ago when I resigned from my last job, and next to it a photo of how I looked when I undertook my 383km walk 10 years ago. I had a very understanding employer regarding my psychiatric issues(a rarity) and did casual gardening, landscaping and property maintenance work for her. When I work, I give it my all, and I when I realised that I could not complete the work that she required in the time-frame she required, I resigned. The pay was meagre but I enjoyed giving back to the community, even if it was to one old lady. I give what I can in whatever capacity I can and am truly thankful and fortunate to receive the DSP.
I hope to improve my health (I am currently studying an Advanced Diploma of Natural Therapies part-time) and get gardening and labouring work again whilst continuing my creative works. I have tried the orthodox medical path of healing and it has caused me more health issues than it has resolved. The photo below is result of my last serious attempt to stop smoking and being prescribed Varenicline (Champix/Chantix). This time I am choosing the natural way and am removing myself from those I love and others for the possible psychotic reactions, so that I may do no harm.
