Happy 17th Anniversary, GOG!

I'm hoping we get Trails in the Sky Remake.

tfishell: We were never going to get some high quality release every day, the fact we got 3 over the past two days is already incredible.

Or what were you expecting?
avatar
Gersen: Honestly yes, I was expecting a new release everyday, of course not at the level of the last two days, but at least some indy title that was missing on Gog or something similar.
The problem with releasing too many games back to back is that the average GOG customer doesn't really... expect that lol? so any indie or small title could get crushed under the weight of the big names

But hey, I'd love to get more releases before the big october 7th thing

Thing is, now that GOG is in the process of going Big Time, the expectations are higher. We all know that Steam is the standard. We also know GOG will never be able to fully compete. Nonetheless, it must raise its game and start adding former AAA and other top titles. Gone are the days where a new indie release, once a week, is enough. So, surprise us with another Far Cry or two, maybe ditto with some Need for Speeds, as GOG managed to do with The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. We're at that point now.

Pretty much. It feels like a lot of people who are expecting 1 or 2 random indie games haven't been paying attention. It's not all gold every week, but the quality and quantity of releases has shot up pretty damn quickly over the last few years, to say nothing of the positive trajectory the store's had leading up to that. The Japanese devs are here, the Western devs have in many cases been more receptive to bringing big titles over, and most notable indies are here day-and-date now. It's a different world, and it's continuing to get better.

It ain't perfect, obviously, but I think it's silly to pretend like heavy hitters are that out of the ordinary at this point.

Frankly, imo everyone is better off keeping their expectations low and then being greatly surprised. Don't forget we can go months without having a "AAA" release. That's just how it is and it's (almost assuredly) not GOG's fault (or rarely), as they want high-selling games here, which are AAA and popular mainstream AA and indies.

We've gotten high off the last 3 big-deal releases, but this is not the norm.

Also you know the licensing issues with NFS games, and unfortunately Ubisoft hasn't released here in many years so don't get your hopes up about Far Cry (and they hate people owning their games anyway). I'm just encouraging realizing the context as to why some games may never show up or take years to show up.

@anyone: don't forget to vote on the Dreamlist, especially for obscure indies that don't have many votes: https://www.gog.com/dreamlist/

Solid points for sure. And I still half expect a couple of new Far Crys to show up here one day. And I don't fully buy into the view that Need for Speed can't ever reach GOG. It's about money and that means it can be done if the parties involved want it. Huh, the very concept of GOG ought to be a no-go given how so many player want to stream and studios want DRM. Yet, somehow, GOG found a way to provide a vast library DRM free.

Happy anniversary to gog and the community.
Thanks to everyone who kept (and keeps) DRM-free gaming alive. Wishing a bright future to you all.

idbeholdME: Is it really going to be a major release every day? [...]
Obviously not. Releases on GOG (major or not) on weekends and major holidays (in Poland) have always been vanishingly rare, even in recent years. I could see there possibly being a game giveaway that at least starts on a Saturday or Sunday, though.

I wonder if that wide present for 7/10 (aka 10/7) is going to be a big news event, suspected to be a deal with Microsoft and announcement of a Freelancer release or the straight-up release of it.

Yesterday, we got a game almost 10 years old and one like 6-7 years old.

If you're upset about GOG not going after more old obscure titles, that's probably a fair complaint. Otherwise, GOG is assuredly working on getting what will sell well, like highly-voted games on the Dreamlist; it just takes longer nowadays because, generally, only games in excessively murky legal situations remain, or publishers not interested in GOG (ever or anymore); EA and Ubisoft come to mind.
Arr, what of the obscure Windows 3.x or 9x games? Or the countless edutainment titles we're missing? Some of us would like to introduce the next generation to Treasure Mountain!

*points at pile of giant sticks with breeze blocks nailed to them

...and some people have prepared for your celebration in case that happens! :/

Congrats GOG!
Glad for being part of, at least, the last 5 years of this story.

Hope you more and more years to come and may more developers and publishers, both indie and AAA find your store atractive for releases, old and new!

Cheers!

Not that you're not very much aware of it, but don't see Win 3.x titles being sold again unless MS would legally allow some sort of emulation of it to be bundled.

Speaking of, how'd it be if THAT would be the big "collaboration with MS" announcement?
Or even a Win 9x emulation that'd make those titles far less of a headache to get to run.

GOG has in the past, done Boxedwine for a release or two.
