It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I see the reason for moving forward to gog Galaxy and to say Goodbye to the gog downloader, BUT gog Galaxy is being advertised as being a fully free optional thing and that we can still download games without it.

This is certainly true, but without the gog downloader downloading a game has become enormously uncomfortable, for example that the gog downloader put these in an own folder and downloaded them to the folder "gog"

Now it directly downloads them into the "downloads" folder of my pc, so I have to manually drag and drop or copy and paste it into the "gog" folder where all the other games so far have gone and then ALSO have to create my own folder for the game download again.

Though maybe some may only see it as a minor annoyance, I for my part feel very much almost "forced" to switch to gog Galaxy to have comfortable downloads again...... :/

Would really appreciate to read more opinions on this :)
I don't even have it installed and I'm doing just fine
You know you can pick where to download things to in your browser, they don't have to go only to "downloads". On top of that you can also create a new folder from the same dialog in one simple step, so it seems that your issue is not just an annoyance, it really doesn't exist.

It's exactly as optional as the downloader was. If you liked the downloader, why not try using Galaxy's "download backup" thing? It's basically the downloader, but less optimised and stable. I'm hoping it'll improve over time though...
Not sure what browser you're using, but they normally have a setting to make them ask for a destination folder every time you download a file, instead of dumping everything into the default location...

No "more" opinion from me. I have the same as yours. It is technically optional, with alternatives being made as cumbersome and annoying as possible. Heck, it's a strategy often seen in democracies, with bureaucratic procedures being officially available but in a way to deliberately discourage people to resort to them.

So. Can't say anything. I'm not using galaxy. As a cost I'm using a system that has become much worse than the previous one, but it's my choice, and yay freedom I suppose.

This.

It's not complicated people. Before the downloader or if you didn't like it... you used the browser. Same difference with Galaxy. Galaxy is the downloader with more options. It's optional to use just like the downloader was but GOG isn't going to cater to you if you don't want to use it for whatever reason.

You either move on to the new version (ie Galaxy) or you use the old dated unsupported version (ie GOG Downloader) or use nothing at all (ie your browser)... GOG has done nothing wrong here.

I'm with TinyE on this. I download from the browser and never have any problems. A couple years back when I had the worst internet connection you can imagine, I had no problems downloading from the browser, and now that I have possibly the best under-$100-a-month connection you can get in this country, I still have no problems.

Galaxy is 100% optional. For now.

Of course I can....but it's a pretty big difference to have it already preset for the destination with only 1 click every time as it was with the gog downloader

or on the other hand

I change it to download something from gog.com
I change it again to download something from somewhere else to somewhere else
I change it to download something from gog.com
I change it again to download something from somewhere else to somewhere else

Again and again and again......and I'm really supposed to do that now for every time I want to download something from here, knowing that a smoother and better working option once existed?
There was a day where people considered the downloader to be a buggy ploy to take away the freedom of the direct download.

And for the time being you can get a downloader link and still use the old program. I don't know how long that will last and it isn't the easiest link to get to.

I've never even used the gog downloader. I have over 100 games here. Never had any trouble getting my games, including really big ones.

I really don't see your point. Before Galaxy, you had two options yes? Browser download or Downloader.

Now you have two options, browser download or Galaxy.

If you don't consider Galaxy optional then you didn't consider the downloader optional. What is the actual difference in principle?
Umm,never used anything but browser and no problems.
You don't need galaxy open to play games you've even installed WITH galaxy, and you can download seperate installers, so yeah it's completely optional.
