It just wiped out my games folder too.....I posted a new thread for this not seeing this thread first.

All I can say is avoid using the client for now.

I'm beside myself with anger (lots of RPG's I had progress in are now all gone)

How did that happen exactly? Want to avoid that.

I thought that problem should have been fixed already. It used to be that if you added the parent folder of the game ("D:\Video Games\GOG" instead "D:\Video Games\GOG\Morrowind" for example), when uninstalling the game, it would remove everything in the folder you gave it, not in the game's folder (so in the above example, everything in the "D:\Video Games\GOG" folder would be deleted). Do make sure to report it in the mantis, especially since it is an extremely serious bug.

I think it has something to do with importing so DONT IMPORT ANYTHING.

I imported Ultima V and it worked, shut down....went to get breakfest, came back to my computer opened up the client and it said "Corrupted data" on Ultima V. I then noticed ALL my games said corrupted data, I then looked for the local files and they were gone. The entire root directory was gone.

D:\Video Games\Gog

I dont know if its the importing or not but I would say just dont use it for the time being.

I did it all all the hard way. Deleted my GOG folder and started all over again haha. Good job I did too.

Thats it!

When I imported I picked GOG not the actual Ultima V folder.

I DID try to uninstall and re-install when I first saw that it was corrupt and thats when I noticed every game was gone.

Thanks for the heads up but in my case its too late.
GOG is trying to improve their movies catalogue with GOG Galaxy's Drive cleaner II With a Vengeance.

Understandable. Thank God I did not use Galaxy for anything important and relied on the old downloader and installers. Without them GOG would be really bad. Actually I think that GOG should warn their users better of such serious bugs before downloading and installing Galaxy. I mean that they should link or attach a list of known bugs.

If only GOG linked to the bug tracker on Galaxy's page. Oh, wait, they do. Twice.

Totally agree. If there was a warning like:

"Please be warned a bug was found when importing games. Please read release notes"

I guess its my fault for not reading up on things and I know its a beta but the bug that happened to me today is pretty major and I think a warning would be good to have.

Luckily I have an undelete program I used to scan my drive and restore my games. I'm not going to do anymore importing though, I prefer clean installs right now and I can always transfer my saves.

If only people would follow and read those links. Oh, wait, if they would do, probably nobody would use Galaxy just yet.
By the way, is there a safe way to remove that horror ? I have an old unused version of Galaxy in my gog games folder, and don't want to play lottery with my saves. I haven't tried uninstallng or updating it, I just don't touch that damned thing.

Would it be safer to erase its files and cclean the hell of its remains, than to uninstall/update it the way it was supposed to work, or shall i just keep it in that corner of my HD until the day I change my computer ?

I've just checked it with Ultima V, purposely selecting parent folder (C:\Games) instead of the game (C:\Games\Ultima 5). After uninstalling the game other subfolders in C:\Games remained intact.

The only way to achieve such unfortunate result of parent folder being wiped, would be to select the checkbox to "Also remove my savegames and any user data" during the uninstallation, which would indeed wipe all the contents of the folder (and as the folder was mistakenly selected in the first place, this would really wipe it).

Until import option cannot magically guess that the selected folder was wrong, sadly there is no magical solution here and we will likely remove that checkbox for manually imported games as there is always a risk of selecting a wrong folder.

This is an unrelated issue to cimerians post, and to my knowledge it was fixed in 1.0.7 beta if not in 1.0.5.

Couldn't you check for the existence of the goggame-galaxyFileList.ini file to see if it's a valid game folder?
