I had the issue "Connection to GOG Galaxy Communication Service was lost and could not be restored! GOG Galaxy will now shutdown."


Changed CryptoPrevent protections to "none" and reboot. GoG Galaxy now stays connected. Poor programming choice to run in userspace, but hey, I figured it out.

Now to play some sweet sweet Gwent

I had the problem and solved it out with the following procedures:

- I disabled all the Remote Desktop * services.
- I added and allowed all the GOG executable files through the Firewall rules.
- I made sure that all the GOG executable files are NOT "Running As Administrator" .

Finally, I noticed that my GOG platform was installed via the last Gwent's version. However, it was apparently having some issues updating itself; thus, the program also prompted me to download the last GOG software from the main website directly. And I think that it will hopefully solve all these issues.

Was getting the same error as OP. I open up GOG, it runs for about 5-10 seconds then Galaxy Communication Service error appears and I'm forced to close the program.

Potential solution: uninstalled and reinstalled GOG Galaxy. Noticed mid installation that it said "GalaxyCommunicationService.exe" was still running (even after I uninstalled Galaxy). I closed it via Task Manager and continued installing. I'm currently running the Galaxy client and it hasn't crashed so far.

Probably not related to the issue at all. Using GOG Galaxy on Win7 (64 bit) and GalaxyCommunicationService.exe (32 bit) is ALWAYS pending in my task manager after i quit the application for about 45 seconds. It can be terminated manually or it will terminate by itself.
IMO there are two many issues with GALAXY lately and GOG acting strange. Why in the hell i have no more notifications in Galaxy, why i can't terminate the app by simple closing the window (this option was available in beta versions and it was an awesome feature)

This issue has been ongoing for over a month and all I see on this thread are users 'guessing' or trying different things to get it to work and what I don't see is COG posting a solution. Am I the only one who thinks this is messed up?

I've had this problem intermittently - didn't work, did work, didn't work. When it did stay connected it just hung up doing something with Witcher 3 and even trying to abort the Witcher 3 job it was trying to do was a FAIL. So I uninstalled Witcher 3.
After booting up COG Galaxy only the GWENT game was left, but then it started with this Fatal Error msg... again.

Just a couple mins ago I did not press the OK on the Error Msg and in the background it downloaded AND installed the GWENT app. (which makes me wonder WHAT connection is referencing when it says it had lost connection). But since then it still has not been able to stay connected so launching GWENT is impossible.

The attached image show the error msg and notice the installing behind the Fatal Error msg - it did complete the installation.

I have the same problem and i try all solutions but no one help me....

But i find one strange thing in the log.

I don't understand why gog galaxy use the last version 1.2.9.5
But the Communication service use the older versione 1.2.8.1

I've used Gog in the past exactly once, several years ago, but I decided to give it another go with Witcher 3. And now I've got this error too. The original post here was over a month ago, and there's multiple reports on mantis.gog.com.

Is this normal for Gog, that they don't respond to things like this?

Is there a different way to download a Gog game that preferably wouldn't have me individually downloading like 30 files?

Edit: Never mind, found the Downloader. Had to reinstall it a few times before it worked, but hey.

So that is the problem.
I use cryptoprevent too.
That is annoying.
I am not going to disable cryptoprevent for GOG Galaxy.

I hope this will be addressed.

If Cryptoprevent is not the problem, as it wasn't for me, There is another thing to try.
Go to services (If you do not know how to open services a quick search will tell you) and check to see that Galaxy Client Service is set to manual, and Galaxy Communication service is set to automatic. Surprisingly, mine were disabled for some reason (I am thinking it is a speed boost program I use) I set them as above, then started the galaxy client and the issue disappeared.

Oh also, check to ensure that galaxy client is enabled in start-up as well. This can be done through MSCONFIG.

I have been having this issue since yesterday evening. None of the mentioned solutions work for me. I do not have anything called "Cryptoprevent" (or at last I believe so).
Is there anything else I can do? I have not installed anything new for a long time, only Windows 10 updates. I have no idea what caused that problem. It just started to happen.

Strange thing is, that I have GOG Galaxy also on a different computer, where it works perfectly fine.

After 4 days GOG Galaxy started to work fine again. I did absolutely nothing. Problem solved itself.

With 1.2.26 which is latest available version for Mac at time of writing, this is still an issue. One solution for Mac users:

From a terminal window...
- cd /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy
- touch GalaxyCommunication.txt
- cd redist
- ./GalaxyCommunication

Then, from desktop start GOG galaxy. If the process in the terminal window stops with error:
[Service stopping; file /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/GalaxyCommunication.txt doesn't exist]

...repeat terminal steps above.

Why would anyone want to do this? They wouldn't. Personally, I'm removing the client and sticking with Steam. Good job GOG devs.
