JMich: A limited shot role could very well be sitting on his power. As could any passive one. What roles would those be, and how would they affect us?
The obvious one would be an SK who is sitting and waiting.
JMich: The usefulness of an investigative role doesn't depend on who he targeted, since he will always be giving us more info. Not to mention that lack of protection confirmation does paint Lift in a very bad light.
-Maybe I'm nitpicking too much, but you seem to be assuming that the investigative roles will be telling the truth about their investigations, assuming they mention their results at all.
-I'm seeing a fair sized split in people's opinions on Lift's claim of protection. One group of people seem to want those that were protected (or doing the protecting) to keep their mouths shut. And another group of people seem to be counting that lack of extra verification against Lift.
JMich: I was under the impression that I didn't paint any specific investigator as town/scum, but you are correct, it would be hasty to accuse someone due to flavor.
This was not meant as an accusation, just an observation based on the assumptions presented. As I said, I'd been kicking around the idea for awhile now.
JMich: I thought scum and mafia was the same thing. Are you including all neutrals in scum, or only anti-town neutrals?
I'm using mafia as an easy reference handle to refer to a specific group of scum. All mafia are scum, but not all scum are necessarily mafia (with SK being the easy example). Any anti-town neutrals would be included in scum, but not all neutrals are necessarily scum (ex. a neutral survivor that just needs to be alive when another side wins).
Bookwyrm627: If a SK decides to finally try out his kill ability, that could be two town investigative roles done in one night, with him claiming misplaced Vig afterwards.
JMich: And how would that change if we did lynch, and said SK decided to kill this night? Oh, right, 3 townies down. So loss next day.
Unless the SK hits scum, or there isn't an SK.
Even if we mislynch, mafia hits town, AND SK hits town, we don't lose unless all townies are removed by the 3 kills. If mafia tie up the numbers, then we're in a bad situation because mafia just need to eliminate SK for a win, but we're not entirely out of the running. With a mafia unfriendly SK, each would need to eliminate the other in order to secure the game.
JMich: Yes. As I said time and time again, if you are confident enough that someone is scum, vote for them. But what happens if you aren't confident enough?
Option 1) Go for luck based lynch. If we it scum, hurray! If we don't, we lose a night's worth of investigations.
Option 2) Delay the lynch. Wait for extra info. Decide once you have the extra info.
Lynching today means that we are either in a better spot tomorrow (if we lynch scum) or in a worse one (if we lynch town). Not lynching today means we are not in a worse spot tomorrow, and depending on investigators, we may be in a better one. This only works here due to the sheer number of investigators we have (4), since not all of them will be killed. It is quite likely that one of them is scum, possibly two, but we will have 3 extra reads tomorrow, if not 4. So yes, for me the No Lynch is the safe play here, unless you can convince me that your preferred target is scum. bler is making a good case, but it may be too late for that now, with the deadline looming over us.
Unless we have a vig (on top of everything else), then our only weapon for eliminating scum is the lynch. The only way to securely get an extra night of investigations is to No Lynch twice. If we No Lynch today, then lynch tomorrow, we've basically forfeited the main benefit you are touting for No Lynch (an extra night). I strongly disagree with you on the risk/reward. We MIGHT get an extra night of investigations (that will hopefully be useful) in exchange for giving up two chances to kill scum, and we might lose the investigators we're depending on while waiting. In return, we're running the risk of straight up losing RIGHT NOW.
Gah. Stupid deadline. I'm sure Yogsloth and the dead thread, at least, are amused by all this running around with flailing arms.
