My first experience with this tool was when using it to play MGS 1 & 2. It is also the main reason I haven't bothered with fan patching this time around. This wrapper is very easy to use and is able to work with the game's setting instead of just downright overriding them. I'm not entirely sure how it works but it is able to scale up the resolution of older game while still using the games built in resurrection settings.

For example if you set the game to 640 x 480 but set the wrapper to 1920 x 1080 you will get a 1920 x 1080 picture but with a little aliasing. It’s just a little though. So after setting it to something like 1024x768 you’ll get something very close to native 1080p. It reminds me of nGlide but I think it works much better and is even simpler to set up. I hope to see it used in more games.

I am a fan of the wrapper as well. It is used in other GOG titles like Warlords III Darklords Rising, Combat Mission trilogy, Dungeon Siege etc... Some games were updated with this wrapper making them more compatible with Wndows 10. But I am sure that originally they were intended to make them Linux compatible. So, Linux saved old directx games in new versions of windows :D

I believe that it is some kind of personalized wrapper with dgvoodoo2 as base. The configurator is simplified and probably the ddraw.dll customized depending each game. But not really sure.

It is some kind of a directx 1-7 wrapper.

It is based in a ddraw.dll file, a dxcfg.exe and a ini file or cfg where the configuration is stored. Pretty clean and effective.

The wrapper can be used from the game folder (dxcfg.exe) or from Galaxy, from additional executables etc.

The configurator exe and what you can achieve with it is very similar to the NGlide one for 3DFX titles. If you are familiar with it you will be at home. (resolution, aspect ratio, vsync, fullscreen/windowed, antialiasing etc)

Other external alternatives would be the ddrawcompat wrapper or the dgvoodoo2 in its different versions. All of them Very similar.

I am familiar with dgvoodoo I don't actually like it that much because I think it's too much feature creep and I prefer a simpler more straight forward program.

Don't use an awesome tool just because anti-virus needlessly panics? You're welcome to mindlessly trust any warning it throws at you but don't tell others to do so too.

It helps with many a game to get it running without issues and is something anyone who plays older games should have on their PC at the ready.

It would be cool if GOG could distribute this wrapper outside of individual game releases, as it's being constantly updated and it would make it much easier to get the latest version to try with other games. Ideally I would love to see it open-sourced as well but I can understand why that might not be able to happen.
