Cavalary: It does? GOGDB lists previous discount as 30%. Was there another?
avatar
kbnrylaec: GOGDB is a quite new service and have no previous data before its launch.
The Lion's Song was released here on Jan 8, that 30% discount is the launch one.

Anyone here played the game? How is it compared to all-time classics like HoM&M or AoW? (because it's this kind of game, isn't it?)

The wife and I both have over 300 hours into Thea, and we both highly recommend it if you like turn based strategy mixed with RPG, lore and build-your-settlement type games. It is unique - a bit of HOMM & AoW yes, but more. Which god you pick determines your people's perks and likely direction of play. How you build your settlement will determine what types and races/classes of people (and creatures, ghosts or demons) you'll attract to join you and how children will grow up. Battles are determined like a card game, but the cards are each of your people so how you equip them, the skills you assign each and the items you craft all figure into the tactics of it as each can have several skills to bring into play. Saves are easy and each god has different levels to unlock, so it continues in a series of games with different choices for completion - so while the goals are the same, different quests and storylines are possible. There is a free demo available on Steam, along with many reviews, which may give you an idea of gameplay, although it won't be able to show you the depth of the game or the lore (based on Eastern European mythos and fantasy) in the demo alone.

Warning: Thea ranks among the "just one more turn" type of games - like the Civilization games!

Thank you for the opinion!
And - you use Linux, am I right? So the game runs well under Wine perhaps?
Regarding the first sentence - does it mean that the game contains legendary hot-seats mode perhaps? :)

First, be aware Thea works only on "64bit linux machines which fulfill similar requirements to windows machines."

That said, I do not have personal knowledge of running Thea on Linux yet. Truthfully, since I know you also use Linux I took your interest as a sign it does. ;) Our home systems have been Linux for over a year now, but we run some Windows-only games in VM or on our old Windows laptops required for work. Our time playing Thea was the Steam version on the Windows laptops. However, Thea is a Unity-based game. As of last March, it was working with Ubuntu based distros. While the dev does not officially support Linux because they do not feel they know it well enough, they do work with the Linux community to try to keep Thea working with Linux, as you can see: Thea the Linux version! According to the GOG Thea subforum, the GOG version 1.20.3919 was confirmed to be working with Wine 3.5 in April here. Which is why we've now bought Thea on GOG and are looking forward to transfer it to our Linux systems also! :D

No hotseat mode (that I know of anyway), sorry.

I can confirm that the GOG version as of today is the 1.20.3919 reported to work with Wine.

Yup, I've just found the same Steam forum link (how to download the game and play on Linux - created by devs, who cannot afford full support, but try to make the game playable on Linux). Good news than! Thanks once again.
