markrichardb: There's a recut trailer going around which makes things significantly better:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IDXpOX0Cp0
It's only better because it cut almost everything out and used the song :D
The more I see people complain about this movie, the more I feel ashamed of being a Ghostbusters fan since I can remember. I'd hoped most folks would have a better reason than "omg they're gurls icky."

I would much, much rather see these four actresses take on the story than end up with a movie starring Seth Rogan, Seth MacFarlane, those guys from The Hangover, Russell Brand, Jonah Hill... or worse... Adam Sandler.

Yeah. Only the thing is- that's not really the problem raised by the majority. Seriously, read through this thread. You are describing maybe three people here. The real problem is that... how should I put it...

I didn't specifically mean this thread (sorry). I meant in general, on the internet, forums, Facebook, Twitter, etc. There's some seriously vitriolic comments out there. :(

Meh. I'll wait for the book and read it instead.

It's funny you say that, because I felt the comedy at the end of the trailer felt very Tyler Perry or Adam Sandler tier. I was actually on board until I saw those couple "jokes" at the end. If that is the type of comedy the movie will have, then count me out. It doesn't appear to be satire or have the political jokes that the original has. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjzC1Dgh17A

It's incredibly ignorant and lazy to dismiss all criticism as "wahh muh misogyny wahh" People hate how this looks because it looks like yet another cynical, bland remake from hollywood featuring 4 untalented actresses as their only selling point. GURL POWER>new ideas and good filmmaking I guess. You're not a fan-you're a fanBOY.

Most people do not have a problem with the gender change. Watch the video above. He sums up just about everything that is really wrong with the upcoming movie.

I didn't say all. I said most. For every one valid criticism I've seen there's fifty or more comments like the ones I dislike. My first exposure was the hospital visit the four main actresses made to a children's hospital while in costume, people were leaving horrible comments about them... at a Children's Hospital facebook page.

Nobody wins.

Crosmando: What happens when there's no longer any old franchises left to reboot? Does Hollywood implode?
Hmmm if copyright worked the way it was SUPPOSE to, then *GASP* they would have to come up with something original instead of trying to remilk a 30-yearold franchise that was excellently done!

Seriously, a lot of 80's films are better than modern reboots. It's a wonder why they think they can make money off this garbage. Heh, i bet getting the original cast together and just having them talk about all they could remember of issues and fun and failures on set would be a better show/movie than the reboot :P Better yet, find out which lines were adlibed.

Because last year two such movies made over a billion dollars each? Hell, even the much maligned Genisys turned in a decent profit after all.

I will admit the only good 80s movie "remake" was Predators:

Has its flaws and grips but compared to the competition this one so far wins by a landslide.

Yesterday I commented about how long it was going to be before people decide that the issue is that women are playing the roles rather than the shittiness of it all.

I was hoping to be wrong about that.

Also, why can't they give more of these sorts of roles to funny women? The women in question don't seem to have any comedic timing or chemistry.

There've been a few movies in that series. There were the first and second ones and then they did Alien versus Predator and then Predators. I'm not sure if I'm missing anything.

For what they were, they were good enough.

Some good reboots:

Dredd, Batman Begins, John Carpenter's The Thing, Nosferatu (Herzog).
