Any suggestions ?

The genre doesn´t matter honestly.

Something along the lines of Divinity: Original Sin or Saints Row: The Third in regards of the customization.
Try Neverwinter Nights! Really diverse customization options.

Shadowrun games
Pillars of Eternity
The Fallouts
Customization of appearance or stats?

Elminage Gothic. Sarisio, one of the game's biggest fans, will be able to tell you more about it, I have not had the chance to delve deep into the game yet :)

I loved it. But, as with any game, you'll get mixed reviews. But for me, this one grabbed me well enough to play half way through about 7 times and finish it completely 3 times. And those were all back to back to back. It's the only recent game I've done that with.
Why, Arcanum, of course!
Mount & Blade offers quite a large cosmetic palette as well.
low rated
I really liked the build customization features in Daggerfall (I think the other TES games have them too). It basically lets you mix and match any of the skills, advantages, and disadvantages available to any of the game's classes (and there are like 16 classes, so lots of abilities). It's not very balanced -- you can create all sorts of game-breaking superclasses pretty easily -- but it's a lot of fun.

How could I forget Morrowind? I'm playing it now. And yeah, I'm building an uber class.

Thanks for the recommendation. :)
I like the artstyle and the gameplay seems pretty solid, will take a better look later.
Apart from the usual suspects already mentioned, there's also URU: Complete Chronicles, an open world puzzle adventure game that you probably wouldn't expect to find custom character creation in!

Great to hear.
If I like what I see I´ll consider trying it out. :)

My problem with the Elder Scrolls is modding them too much and thus loosing interest too soon.
This time I´ll try playing a vanilla playthrough. :D

First time I heard of a puzzle game letting you create your own character. :)
Will take a look later today. Thanks! :)

I just started too. You don't have to build an uber class to have fun though (I hope... I didn't :P
