Why would they need a "better excuse"? If they're having technical issues, then they're having technical issues. Stuff happens. Chroma Squad was outdated on GOG for a while because even though the devs sent GOG the update, GOG discovered technical issues with the DRM-free version. It's not unheard of.

They have to implement DRM into the game, getting rid of it again is nothing, they can't tell us they're having problems with that and expect us to believe that.
