Recently I started to play a free open source game, 0 A.D., is a really well balanced strategy game that is heavy inspired in other classics of the genre like Age of Empire and Rise of Nation. I was so surprised by the level of quality that I decided to make a list with links direct to the download page, I'm planning to expand this list on the future and I will add all your recommendations, so, if you know one game please let me know!!!!

LIST:
- 0 A.D.: Historical Real Time Strategy Game, inspired by Age of Empires, you control one of twelve civilizations (and there is mods that add even more) in a single player or multiplayer Skirmish Mode.

- Adanaxis: First Person Space Combat Game.

- Amulets & Armor: First Person Rol Playing Game.

- Assault Cube: a FREE, multiplayer, first-person shooter game, based on the CUBE engine.Taking place in realistic environments, with fast, arcade gameplay, it's addictive and fun!

C-evo follows the spirit of popular turn-based strategy games from the mid 90s, but with more emphasis on powerful AI and careful design of the rules, resulting in a true challenge.

- Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead: a turn-based survival game (roguelike) set in a post-apocalyptic world. Struggle to survive in a harsh, persistent, procedurally generated world. Scavenge the remnants of a dead civilization for food, equipment, or, if you are lucky, a vehicle with a full tank of gas to get you the hell out of Dodge. Fight to defeat or escape from a wide variety of powerful monstrosities, from zombies to giant insects to killer robots and things far stranger and deadlier, and against the others like yourself, that want what you have…

- Cortex Command Community Project: After Cortex Command was dropped in it's development the community started to work in this version with the source code.

- Domino Chain: Domino-Chain is a puzzle game where you have to rearrange dominoes on different platforms to start a chain reaction that makes all dominoes topple over. There are many strange types of dominoes, such as the Ascender which will rise to the ceiling when pushed, or the Exploder which will blast a hole into the platform it stands on. Faithful reincarnation of the game Pushover (this game is available on GOG) originally published by Ocean in 1992.

- DRL: D**m, the Roguelike is a fast and furious coffee-break Roguelike game, that is heavily inspired by the popular FPS game Doom by ID Software. Jupiter Hell is the successor created by the same developer and also is available in GOG.

+1 for Battle for Wesnoth
One of the best + complex turn based free games out there.Their community is incredible.

I also may like to add one game on the list:

Cortex Command Community Project

As I've said in another post in the past, the game was paid, being developed by DataRealms.
They've, unfortunately, give up on it's development, so they released Cortex Command's source code to the community.

Marathon Trilogy [Aleph One]

Amulets & Armor
http://amuletsandarmor.com/
Lots of open-source remakes.
It also dawned on me that every game for KolibriOS is also FOSS, but i'm not sure where you'd stand on that since, well, it's not Windows. Fun OS to code for, though, if you're not afraid of ASM. If not for the usual driver issues, i would've likely switched to it at some point.
