I try to register, it says my email is already in use, so, I probably made an account a long time ago.

I would prefer to keep the GOG username F1ach as my username on both sites, is this possible ?

Any user who still had "New User" as their tag line had their avatar changed (for the spambots) They can change it now though.

vv221: That’s something strange going on here: the page https://www.gog.com/account/messages is fully encrypted for me, even with HTTPS-Everywhere disabled.
I noticed the avatars displayed there are the ones from www.gog.com and not images.gog.com, don’t know if it is relevant.

Iceweasel/Firefox 31.4.0 on a Debian Sid
And this may explain why your experience is different. I don't have the thread handy, but there was at least one user that never faced any of the "sign up/ log in" issues on their Linux system, but did on their Windows one.

I've also no experience with the Firefox fork you're on, if it's the same as the latest stable Windows Firefox, and how it may or may not play any role.

May I ask for an official statement that the new avatars were introduced for the spambots?

It’s exactly the same than *GNU/Linux* Firefox, only name and icon differ.
But I can’t say how Windows and GNU/Linux versions of Firefox differ, so I can’t say if these eventual differences can explain the bugs you’re talking about happen only on Windows.

Sorry for not being able to help further…
Sometimes I nearly forget everyone is not using GNU/Linux (yet) ;)

It's GOG that has to fix this, so really no need to apologise; at least we got one more confirmation that Linux users don't experience this issues, so that's something already.

And yes, yet is definitely the key word for me. Perhaps I should set up a Linux partition just to use the GOG site hassle free! ;-)

I've had the "sign up/ log in" problems since it first started across a few flavors & versions of Firefox on Linux & Windows. I also stay on the secure pages.

TECHNICAL UPDATE:

1) There's a spam filter in place. [edit] as I understand it, It stops known spammers from posting. New spammers still can and do post. I've let our devs know it remains an issue, I'm sure we'll find a way to stop it soon.

2) The avatar issue has been fixed - the only problem remaining is that some are blurry, we're still working on it.

Maybe you think of me? :P

Indeed, I haven't had any "sign up/ log in" problems on my Linux system. (Peppermint OS / Palemoon browser).

I can't believe I just +1'd one of your posts.

227: So the merge seems to have broken their forums a bit. Tried to check my unlocked achievements and it led to an "invalid action" page, and if their thread about it is any indication, some people are suddenly suffering from the forum recognizing them as logged out when they're logged in (sound familiar?).

I'm not even mad. It takes skill to break something as foolproof as a simple vBulletin forum.
GOG.com, for all your site-breaking needs.

IDEK what their backend code looks like. It's probably horrifying. I keep looking at the job postings, because this site bugs me every time I use it and I want it fixed dangit, but I really like my current job and don't want to move.

GOG.com: If your GOG.com nickname is already in use on CD PROJEKT RED forums by another account, a random string of numbers will be added to the end of the other, non-merged CD PROJEKT RED one. In case you would want to switch your username, the option of contacting our support to change it remains open during and after the merge.
Question, just to make it sure - if there is some other Lexor on CPR forum - that's me or him/her who will get these random numbers at the end?

As far as I understand it the guys from the CPR forums get the numbers added if they have the same nickname as one of the gog users. But yeah a clarification would be good since this "non-merged" stuff sounds strange.

moonshineshadow: As far as I understand it the guys from the CPR forums get the numbers added if they have the same nickname as one of the gog users. But yeah a clarification would be good since this "non-merged" stuff sounds strange.
Here's the appropriate line from the CD ProjektRed forum: "If your nickname from the RED forums happens to be already taken on GOG.com by another user, we will add 3 random numbers to your original RED forum nickname."

Take that and compare it to this line from THIS thread: "If your GOG.com nickname is already in use on CD PROJEKT RED forums by another account, a random string of numbers will be added to the end of the other, non-merged CD PROJEKT RED one."

And you get this: If there is a naming conflict between the two forums (two accounts would have the same name after the merge is completed), then the account on CD Projekt Red will have some numbers added to the end of the name. As both forums state, you can contact support to change your user name.

Example:
-There is a "Lexor" on the GoG forum, and a "Lexor" on the CD Projekt Red (CPR) forum.
-CPR Lexor needs to merge his account (some option currently available on CPR forum; I don't know the details for doing this).
-CPR Lexor goes and merges his account.
-There is a naming conflict: we can't have two account names that are the same!
-CPR Lexor gets some random numbers added to his name (Lets say "123"), so CPR Lexor becomes CPR Lexor123
-If CPR Lexor doesn't like his new name, then he can contact support to change it to something else that isn't already in use (he can't ask support to change it to "Lexor" because that is already in use)
-GoG Lexor is totally unaffected this entire time
-(Assuming no name change) CPR Lexor123 now logs into both GoG AND CPR as "Lexor123"
